A burly and bitter Imperial IPA, Rampant pours a pure copper and carries the sheen of a rightly hopped beer. The Mosaic and Calypso hops bring stonefruit to the front seat, and the addition of Centennials nod towards citrus for a well-rounded aroma. The taste expands these hops with heavy peach tones and a profoundly bitter bite. There is some malt sweetness to stand this beer up, and Rampantís finish is bone-dry.

12 oz bottle into a pint glass. A: Pours a dark gold color with nice clarity. The head is a nice-looking three finger offwhite shade. It has a good frothiness to it, and also retains very well. Plenty of lacing is left on the glass. S: I half-imagined this would be similar to a bigger version of Ranger, and the herbal hop tones mixed with biscuity yeast told me I was right. Thereís something not entirely right sitting with me aromatically that I canít put my finger on, so Iím docking points. T: I donít like how the biscuity flavors interact with the hop profile; it almost creates a vague ammonia-esque flavor. Anyways, this unpleasant flavor fades away right before the middle of the brew, being supplanted with light piny qualities, a touch of citrus, and caramel malt. At first, Iím not enthused by the opening flavors, but they do fade away leaving a reasonable but unassuming DIPA. M: Dry and crisp. The finish washes away some of the less pleasant notes well, which helps inspire additional drinkability. This is probably the best feature. O: I was expecting an imperialized Ranger, and I got an imperialized Ranger...for better or worse. Like Ranger, I could see this one being significantly better on tap. The dry, easy drinking nature does an okay job of covering up its flaws, but there are still far superior options out there that you should pick up instead - and not even its price point can sway me otherwise.

Impy IPA... You focking cretins. Yeah, its kinda robust. Its kinda lacey and a nice gold in the Daffy Duck glass. but it seems to go about 84.6 % of the way and then go......Meh... it reminds me of those co workers which I despise. Again I state the logisticians and bean counters got a hold of the brewers nut sack, squeezed and then said... "we are growing exponentially Focktard!, Damn the craft! full speed ahead! Make sure we have every style represented somehow within this ridiculous budget! Sub standard beer? thatís OK! Its brand recognition that counts! The public is confused and will like what we tell them to like....!" That is the state of this underwhelming IIPA..... Window licking Fock-tards

[Bottle (355ml)] Pours a deep amber-gold with an average size lasting frothy white head. Good amount of lacing. Aroma is lightly sweet and fruity along with bready malt and a good amount of hops. Nice fruity, hoppy flavour (7+) with a moderately bitter finish. Alcohol is well hidden. Medium bodied. Easy to drink for an Imperial and quite enjoyable.

Pours golden with a massive frothy white head. Subdued aromas of floral hops. Flavors are stone fruit, herbal tones, mango, fresh bread, and a bit of fresh cut grass. Nicely balanced. Clean mouthfeel. Drinks easily for an imperial IPA, but the alcohol presence is noticeable. Overall, very nice.

12 ounce bottle from Badger Spirits in Beloit, WI, served a few minutes out of the fridge in a pint glass. Slightly hazy amber-gold, moderate white stable head lasts and lasts and leaves touches of crystalline lacing when it finally subsides...nose is primarily citric and sweet - honey-dripping-orange - but thereís some woody and earthy notes there too...quite sweet upfront, moderately bitter all the way through, drying out somewhat towards the end; fairly acidic, somewhat tart, but primarily juicy; thereís also something of an overripe or spoiled fruit tone that doesnít really help matters...thick and fairly syrupy body, moderate tingly carbonation. I think this is the first NB beer Iíve rated since Iíve been back on this site and itís certainly one of only a few that Iíve had over the last several years, though itís become a ubiquitous brand in the Midwest. Something about them just doesnít appeal anymore; while this was not a terrible experience or anything, itís not about to make me care about this brewery either.

Bottled. A golden beer with a huge white head. The aroma has notes of hops, spices, citrus fruits, and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, carmel, hops, flowers, alcohol, citrus fruits, and spices, leading to a bitter finish.

Not "pure copper" like brewer states, more like an almost clear yellow with fine head and lacing. Hard to describe complex flavor includes candy, citrus, toffee, spice among others. Not "bone dry" yet a fairly dry finish. This beer deserves another go around. BB date: 12/11/2016 consumed on: 09/14/2016. 12oz can from Publix, Boca Raton, FL

Pours an orange-amber with foamy white head. Smells of peach and citrus, biscuits. Taste is bitter and sweet - citrus, bread/biscuit with a bit of peach pit at the end.

North End American Grill, North Wildwood, NJ in Bottle. I came back to the North End to have Cape May Brewery Coastal Evacuation Imperial IPA. Unfortunately, they were having a problem with the tap so I selected Rampant in a bottle. It has become one of my favorite beers -- up there with Guinness (which has some sentimental value to me). It does have a enjoyable sweetness in it -- but -- it does have a bitter bite, much more so than Cape May Coastal Evacuation.
