A burly and bitter Imperial IPA, Rampant pours a pure copper and carries the sheen of a rightly hopped beer. The Mosaic and Calypso hops bring stonefruit to the front seat, and the addition of Centennials nod towards citrus for a well-rounded aroma. The taste expands these hops with heavy peach tones and a profoundly bitter bite. There is some malt sweetness to stand this beer up, and Rampantís finish is bone-dry.

My introduction to imperial IPAs. Ironically enough, it's the sweetness and not the bitterness that turns me off to this particular beer. The hoppy bitterness is indeed intense, but I find the overt syrupy sweetness that I'm sure was intended to balance the bitterness out ends up making the taste worse. The burnt copper color struck me as unappealing but the head and lacing was nice. I also did appreciate the dry and relatively clean finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy

13 oz bottle from Tipples. Pours a beautiful golden orange color with a fluffy white one finger head. Nice floral hop aroma , bready malts, citrus peel, grass, pine. Flavor is nice bitter pine, floral notes, lightly sweet bready malts. Body is medium to light, somewhat dry, bitterness on the tongue, with medium plus carbonation. This goes down very easy. A slight dirtiness on the finish is my only complaint, and it is very strange. But an otherwise solid DIPA thatís easy to find, and nice and light for the style. Just a weird flavor here and there that I canít put my finger on.

From a bottle. Pours a bit light for the style- sort of a weak golden orange color. Decent white head that dissipates. Good solid legs. Lots of flavors going on and a solidly bitter finish true to style. Drinks crisp and medium bodied. Definite spice, earth, pine, peach/apricot, floral notes, apple, tea like tannins and all dominated by citrus. Definite high alpha hops at play here. The pear/ apple notes lend a different edge to the usual bitterness. Very drinkable for an Imperial. As always, solid example of the style from New Belgium.

12 oz bottle into glass. Pours a kind of flat, uninteresting looking golden straw color with a slightly fizzy, white head. Floral pine, grapefruit, solid malt sweetness and a pleasant, bitter-but-not-overpowering dry finish. Medium body, medium stickiness. Seems "lighter" for 8.5%. Surprisingly good for New Belgium.

Pours a slightly hazy copper color with a fair head. Aroma of pine and grapefruit with bit of malt sweetness and grain. Taste of pine, citrus, malt sweetness and grain. Nice bitterness and a bit of lingering pine. Medium body, crisp and well balanced. Nice beer for the style.

From the bottle: nice clarity, itís light orange with a slight green hue. inch and a half of of white, slightly green/ tan tinted. aroma is a definite hop bomb; orange, grapefruit, pine. slightly syrupy, flavor of molasses, some aspirin bitterness, grapefruit rind. The abv is pretty well hidden. Itís a delicious IIPA.

Lacks a floral or hoppy aroma but packs a bitter, floral, and fruity finish. From the tongue to the finish a strong bitterness. Impressed with the punch of bitterness - it's a palate ruining IBU finish. Bottle. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

As I drink more and more of these high alchohol beers, I break them down this way. Is it true to the style and does the alcohol overwhelm the beer. In this case true to style and alcohol in integrated well.

This golden beer has a pine aroma. It has a very strong bite upfront and mellows with some sweetness like peaches. It leaves you with a pleasing aftertaste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Appearance has a light golden yellow color supporting a healthy head leaving fair lace. Smell of resiny hops with a sweet malt aroma. Taste as with the aroma has a nice resiny grapefruit hoppiness supported by a sweet backbone of malt. Mouthfeel is medium with good carbonation.

Pretty good. Got a six-pack of bottles. On the pale side, but plenty of hoppy flavour.
