Clear yellow with a creamy lasting head. Citrus and pine and some spring flowers, grass, I don’t know. Flavor is quite balanced with a sweetness up front and a very nice hop bitterness to follow. Very nice after taste.

Poured from bottle. Strong floral and resinous nose. Pours a dark gold with a huge head that just sits there and does not go away. A lot of citrus on the palate; strong lime and grapefruit leads into a touch of malt then closes with an astringent bitterness. Good feel on the tongue. Nice.

This is a great-tasting IPA. At 70 IBUs, it’s quite hoppy, but very well balanced. Wonderful.

Bottle from Grapes and Hops in Fayetteville, NC on 09/01/2010. Clear golden amber body with a small creamy white head. Big floral hop aroma with some resiny notes. Sweet floral and citrus hop flavor with light pale malt notes. Medium body with moderate carbonation.

From a bottle poured an amber color with a fair amount of head. Nice strong hoppy flavor with a lasting finish.

(12oz bottle). Pours clear straw yellow with 1" thick white head. Aroma of grass, pine, resin, floral, also some basement/funk. Quite pungent. Taste is bitter, but there is a subtle, underlying sweetness. Light to medium bodied with oily and somewhat thin body. Carbonation is fizzy on the tongue. Finish is bitter, but pleasingly so. I think New Belgium nailed this one. They definitely got the hop aroma and flavor, but there is a nice grapefruit aspect that balances this beer out quite well at the end and really cuts through the bitterness. I appreciate that finesse because it seems that too many brewers try to blow up your taste buds with IBU. Nice job!

UPDATED: MAY 14, 2011 Picked up a fresher batch of Ranger so I had to adjust my initial ratings of it.

Pours clear golden with a medium head. Aroma is fruity hops, flavor is fruits and malts. Quite a lot of hops in the finish. Pretty normal but good ipa.

From the bottle poured a bright, clear, brassy-orange ale with fluffy off white head, sustained about 3-4 minutes. It smells piney, for sure, and the flavor shouldn’t disappoint IPA fans. It’s bracing and hop forward. After it warms just a bit, lovely creamy caramel textures appear. Effective without being outrageous.
