3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 wxman (1178) - O’Fallon, Illinois, USA - AUG 15, 2012
Pours a clear garnet/amber with a robust off white head that sticks around and rings the glass. Aroma is caramel malt, citrus and pine. Taste is sweet roasted malt, buttery caramel and plenty of hop spicyness (pine and grapefruit), but not overdone. Afterall, it is an Oktoberfest/Marzen and we want malty sweetness to be in the fore. Excellent effort, as always, from New Belgium.

Pours a reddish amber color with a off white head. Aroma is of toasted malts, pine, caramel, and some toffee notes. Taste is of toasted biscuit malts, grass, pine, some citrus, caramel, and some toffee. has a medium body with a creamy mouthfeel and a crisp semi dry finish. overall, a pretty good amber ale that seems like a good fall seasonal.

Poured into a snifter.
3.5 A: Deep amber mahogany color. Two and a half fingers of frothy tan head. Retention is decent and a moderate amount of lacing is left.
4.0 S: Big toastiness with plenty of caramel underneath and even some toffee. Berry fruitiness. Grassy and earthy hops. A bit resiny. It’s a bit different than most ambers and I like it.
3.5 T: Tastes like the nose, but has less punch to it. Toasty with caramel and toffee. Berry and apple fruits. Grassy, earthy, and resiny hops.
3.5 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Reasonably creamy and smooth.
4.0 D: Tasty beer. I like big toastiness in my ambers, so this hit the spot with regard to that. Solid all around.

growler. a new hoptober style. this time an amber instead of the original golden ale. this one pours a clear rusty color with a large, creamy, beige head. aromatic hop nose with a bready and light cocoa malt nose. just like the last version, these hoptober beers have been very hop forward obviously. it drinks with a slick medium body from the growler pour. a generous malt backbone in this one. juicy, fruity hop notes with light florals in finish.
