Fall is here and with it our seasonal ale, Red Hoptober. Shining like autumn leaves in a globe glass this beer pours a dark and lovely garnet as it builds a bright, inviting head. The Eldorado hops are bold and present with a distinct, piney flavor while the caramel malt and roasted barley provide a backbone to stand Red Hoptober upright. Centennial and Cascade hops offer hints of citrus, tickling the nose, while the tongue carries a subtle, roasty tone that pairs pleasantly with the warming bite of bitter. Red Hoptober is perfect for shortening days and campfire nights.

On tap at the Flying Saucer in Little Rock, AR. Pours clear, deep brown-red colored body with a finger-width, creamy and frothy, beige head that dissipates slowly and leaves a moderate lacing. Aroma is toffee, light caramel, and toast with a moderately firm, earthy and slightly piney hopping. Touches of orange citrus in there too. Flavor is similar. Some toastiness up front with medium toffees and light caramels with a moderate, earthy and slightly piney, orange hopping. A few resins in the middle before this finishes dry and moderately bitter with a slightly toasty toffee malt backing. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium body and a slightly higher than moderate carbonation. Overall, a pretty nice, hopped-up amber. Well hopped with dry oranges and an earthy, slightly piney bitterness balanced well with a toasty toffee and light caramel. Good one.

Pours a dark red color. Aroma is primarily a biscuity malt. Nice amount of hops really balances thus out. A really nice beer for this style.

Bottle. Pours a dark red-brown with a high, cinnamon head. Nose is pine tree with a touch of pomelo. Strong resiny notes on the front of the tongue, shifting to a maple/toffee sweetness before turning dry again. A lot of depth on the palate; finishes rich and clean. I like it.

An impressive and good reddish amber beer with some nice hoppy flavor to go with the malty character. Looking forward to more of this new seasonal.

Serving: 12 oz. bottle from Wegmans Leesburg. It pours a very deep red color with a nice off white head. Nice lacing left behind too. The nose highlights the malt with dark toast, a touch of dark caramel, some earthy and piney hops. The malt strikes the tongue first with toasted malt, bread, and caramel notes, but the pine hops quickly balance things out. The finish ends up leaning towards the hop side. Slightly earthy undertones the whole way. Nice, medium mouthfeel, not too heavy, not too light. Softer carbonation and a lasting finish. A solid daily drinker for the fall season.

Citrusy hop floral aromas. Very prominent hop flavors that finishes with smooth malt backbone. Overall a very good amber.
