Fall is here and with it our seasonal ale, Red Hoptober. Shining like autumn leaves in a globe glass this beer pours a dark and lovely garnet as it builds a bright, inviting head. The Eldorado hops are bold and present with a distinct, piney flavor while the caramel malt and roasted barley provide a backbone to stand Red Hoptober upright. Centennial and Cascade hops offer hints of citrus, tickling the nose, while the tongue carries a subtle, roasty tone that pairs pleasantly with the warming bite of bitter. Red Hoptober is perfect for shortening days and campfire nights.

An aroma of strong pine tree hops with pine flavor and a dry bitter finish. The carbonation is pretty harsh, and I don’t get much more than hops on this one.

Bottle: Deep, toasted amber color, moderate clarity with a foamy off-white cap that settles in just a few moments. Aroma is strongly earthy, dirty, & full of weedy, nearly vegetal hops drawn across a stale caramel candy sweet malt background. Ashy, pine laden, strangely sweet... Not a good sign. Flavor loaded with more of the same stuff; heavy pines, really raunchy & dirty hop notes, stale toffee & caramel malt, with a strange vegetal finish. Peppery? Awkward. Not a huge fan of this one.

12 oz bottle. Poured an amber color with a medium sized fluffy white head. Aroma was malty, with some pine notes. Flavor was nice light juicy citrus, with some malts, light spicy hops. Drinkable.

Bottle at home. Pours a clear amber color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma and flavor have have a mildly toasted malt backbone, caramel, light resiny and herbal hop character, all in all a basici amber ale with a hint more hop character.

"Nice interplay between some citrus and spicy hops and a pretty hearty malt backbone (that was not really expected but enjoyed). Not really sure what I was expecting, but the nutty Irish red qualities was definitely not it, yet I enjoyed this brew thoroughly. "

Transfer from BA review on 10-21-12- Poured from bottle into pint glass Appearance – Pours a clear reddish amber color with a one finger off white head. The head fades overall a moderate amount of time to give a decent level of lacing. Smell – The aroma is of roasted malt as well as some more hop heavy aromas. The hops are a mix of pine and some herbal aromas. Less sweet then the traditional red, but quite nice. Taste – The taste starts out with a bready and nutty flavor with hints of some roasted malt. With these flavors are a good presence of pine. The pine fades a bit more toward the middle as some caramel flavors come to the tongue. At the end some of the sweetness fades again as more pine and a lighter herbal hop come to the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the slightly above average side with a carbonation level that is average. Good for the lightly roasted and hop flavors of the beer while still maintaining a great drinkability. Overall – A fairly tasty brew with some nice mild to medium hop presence and decent roasted flavors.

Deep amber, creamy tan head. Malty and happy, just enough resinous hops to go with the malt bill.

Six pack from the Local Harris Teeter Supermarket. Pours a clear dark amber/brown color with almost no head. Aromas of caramel, chocolate, and some citrus. Taste is medium bitter, palate is alive with medium body and a light creamy texture. Well made and easy drinking, a good beer.
