COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
New Belgium's seasonal release, Saison, pays tribute to Belgian farmhouse ales brewed to celebrate the fall harvest. Pale bronze in color, our Saison is slightly spicy and delicately hopped. A sweet malty note glides along with herbal tones produced by an authentic Belgian yeast strain. The finish is surprisingly dry.
Originally, local brewers crafted Saison beers for seasonal workers in the farming community to enjoy at the end of their day. With typical hoppy character and an intriguing Belgian twist, Saison will appeal to hop lovers and wheat beer drinkers alike. Whether you're pushing a plow or a pile of paper work, Saison will help you bask in the afterglow of a job well done.
Saison - Enjoy the season.
Pale bronze in color, this delicately hopped ale has a bright, yeasty, artisanal quality worthy of toasting those long autumn sunsets.

12oz bottle, Fall 2006 vintage. normally i wouldn’t rate a bottle that has passed its best before date but I never rated this last year and I have a good memory of it. this is from a bottle cellared a little over 1 year. pours clear golden with creamy white head. nose is yeasty, buttery, doughy, and medicinal. flavor is sweet bread, banana, yeasty, and citrusy. body is pretty watery and slightly syrupy feel to it. i wouldn’t say this aged poorly, it was always pretty bad to begin with.

As it sets in the glass after the pour from the 12 ounce glass, a clear golden amber with a substantial bright white creamy head last and last, finally when it does settle, the lace provides a firm sheet to obscure the glass. Ah, the nose, wet hay and the old barnyard, hints of hops and spices, sweet and true to the style, start is perfectly malted, nice touch of sweet and sour, top medium in feel. Finish has a pleasing bit of sweetness along side the tangy hop spiciness; quite dry aftertaste glues itself to the palate, a fine addition to the style, which is a favorite of mine.

Bottle, best until jan 07. Golden color. Citrus, flowery hops and pepper in the aroma. Flowery hops, pepper, citrus and a hint of licorice in the flavor. Orange bitter aftertaste. Nice one!

Had this beer on 3/5/1999. Color is a bright gold with good carbonation and light head. Aroma is not good. Body is light and goes down crisp with a bitterness. Finish is a bit sour. Overall I rate it as a OK, seems to be a strong Pilsener.

12 oz bottle from mreusch, 6/3/07: Thin off white head w/ a hazy, light amberish/orange body. Grainy malt aroma dominates and is even a bit more harsh as it warms. Wisps of fruity esters, and very little to no spicy yeast character. The flavor is also harshly grainy. There is a light yeasty flavor and very light ester profile. Mild, and I mean mild peppery yeast phenolic. Mostly harsh, grainy malt flavor. Dry finish, grainy aftertaste. Medium carbonation w/ a bit of bite. Medium body, dry m/f. Too clean for my palate for a saison. Not enough yeast character in either the phenolic/spice or esters for me, and the grainy character that dominates seems unpleasant to my palate and takes away from any other subtleties this beer might have had. Not a big fan of this one.
