Deliciousness, I tell you. Sampled at Firkin Fest in St. Paul. Complex, flavorful, fantastic!

Hanger Room Firkin Fest, October 2011. I would call it a Flanders red. Lots of balsamic in the aroma and flavor. I agree with Nuffield that it is not an improvement on (a good batch of) La Folie, but it tasty on its own. No sweetness, but dry oak, and there is a mild anise character.

This is definitely not an improvement on La Folie--they’d be better off just leaving it as it was--but it’s an interesting variation/experiment with it. Nice dark color and the essential fruitiness and sour is retained. Drinkable, but slightly more aggressive. (on tap at the Happy Gnome, St. Paul, MN)

Black body with no head. Light sour aroma with faint green apple. Very acidic body with a mouth puckering g tartness. Faint lactic flavor on the finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On cask at the Draught House 42nd Anniversary Party. I was really looking forward to this beer, but it was a big let down. The beer pours a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma is roasted malt with a little bit of tartness. The flavor is more of the same, with some brown sugar and roasted malt notes. I get a little bit of tartness, but it is nothing compared to the tartness that you get from La Folie. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Not sure what the brewers were going for, but this beer doesn’t really do much for me.

Enjoyed this one at a "one cask" event at Choice City Butcher and Deli. Great color and flavor. All the joys of La Folliee plus the distinct taste of the smokey 1554. Very easy to drink but not so easy you didn’t enjoy it down to the end.

On cask at Firkin Fest at Happy Gnome, this beer was advertised as a blend consisting of 1/3 La Folie and 2/3 1554. In essence a sour brown ale. Poured hazy brown with white ahead, aroma had some acidic notes from the La Folie going along with the roast and chocolate notes of the 1554. Taste was nice and balanced, a nice chocolate and roasted character with some wood and vanilla from the La Folie that finishes pleasantly, but not overwhelmingly, sour. Kind of like La Folie toned down a bit, but good!
