COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editor’s note: in 2006, Skinny Dip replaced Loft as the name of New Belgium’s low-alcohol, low-calorie summer seasonal (only minor changes in recipe; i.e. still approximately 4% ABV and spiced with Kaffir lime leaf).

Skinny Dip Description: New Belgium’s Skinny Dip started out as a challenge from our founder Jeff to brewmaster, Peter Bouckaert. Jeff was looking for a full-bodied, highly drinkable beer for after workouts - something a little lighter than the rest of the portfolio. Peter, a Belgian, responded: “Only in America would I be asked to brew a beer with no calories and less alcohol.” The challenge was to give the beer body and complexity not usually found in beers at the lighter end of the spectrum. The result is Skinny Dip, a full-bodied beer that happens to weigh in at a crisp 114 calories per 12-ounce serving. Cascade hops frolic with a hint of lime leaf, making Skinny Dip a bright, refreshing splash for the summer season.

Loft Description: In a category all its own, Loft delivers an uplifting zest, a taut line of hoppiness, and, from integrated wheat and barley malt, a mouthful as big as the sky. Spiced with Kaffir lime leaves.

Bottle to half-pint glass (shared with the Mrs.). Enjoy by 18OCT15. Looks good; a transparent golden orange with fizzy eggshell head. Smells bready and mildly hoppy. Tastes like it smells with the hops falling on the bitter side. Mouthfeel is medium-light bodied. A decent easy drinker.

Draft at Ropewalk Lounge in Ocean City, MD served in a plastic cup. Clear golden color with white head. Aroma notes of pale malt sweetness, grainy and light citrus/Belgian yeast. Taste adds some toast and slight lemony citrus. Light body, moderate carbonation, crisp with clean sweet finish. A light beer with some character, refreshing.

Bottle. I get the limey note on the nose. Beautiful copper color. Small white head that disappears quickly. Few bubbles. Finish is short n bitter. Best part of this pour was that gorgeous copper color.

Clear brilliant golden with a fluffy white head. Clean little blonde and biscuity ale aroma with a faint little bit of grassy hop. Crisp summer ale flavor of blonde grain and a wee touch of cracker/toast malt with a wee little crisp grassy hop flavor and bitterness. A pretty simplistic and quaffable summer ale.

12 oz. bottle > Stella chalice A: A gentle pour yields little head of a beige color quickly receding to a ring and center pool. Great clarity in the light orange gold color. Few bubbles seen. Laces nicely. Very nice looking beer S: Lightly toasted grains, pale malt. Faint floral hop note. T: Dry crisp flavors of sourdough or pretzel maltiness with a light, fresh citrusy sharpness to the hop bite following very closely. Very nicely balanced and the flavors seem to pair nicely together. It does taste a tad watery though. M: Light of course with more lively carbonation on the palate than expected from the look. O: Pleasant surprise here. I’ve been enjoying summer ales this season and this is one of the nicest ones I’ve had. It is also well priced and widely available. I will purchase this again while it lasts.

Soft lime aromas. Slightly hazy orange-gold with a mostly lasting white head. Bready and limey, with faint earthy hops. Light bodied, very crisp.

Bottle. Pours a copper color with white head. Grainy, spicy, malty, slight fruity aromas and flavors. A solid brew that takes me back to the old days with New Belgium.
