COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editorís note: in 2006, Skinny Dip replaced Loft as the name of New Belgiumís low-alcohol, low-calorie summer seasonal (only minor changes in recipe; i.e. still approximately 4% ABV and spiced with Kaffir lime leaf).

Skinny Dip Description: New Belgiumís Skinny Dip started out as a challenge from our founder Jeff to brewmaster, Peter Bouckaert. Jeff was looking for a full-bodied, highly drinkable beer for after workouts - something a little lighter than the rest of the portfolio. Peter, a Belgian, responded: ďOnly in America would I be asked to brew a beer with no calories and less alcohol.Ē The challenge was to give the beer body and complexity not usually found in beers at the lighter end of the spectrum. The result is Skinny Dip, a full-bodied beer that happens to weigh in at a crisp 114 calories per 12-ounce serving. Cascade hops frolic with a hint of lime leaf, making Skinny Dip a bright, refreshing splash for the summer season.

Loft Description: In a category all its own, Loft delivers an uplifting zest, a taut line of hoppiness, and, from integrated wheat and barley malt, a mouthful as big as the sky. Spiced with Kaffir lime leaves.

Not a bad beer by no means. Nice slight citrus taste, a good summer brew. This was a Loft I got in a New Belguim variety pack.

Bottle on July 8th as Skinny Dip. Lightly sweet, over light body, some lime. Does what it sets out to do I guess.

pours golden with a frothy white head. aroma is malt and citrus. taste is that of a light beer(blah!), with slight malt and citrus notes and very light on the hops. medium body with a slight tart finish. A Belgium ale, really? I already have a slight tire growing around my waste from the good Belgium ales I have drank over my life. I see no reason to make a light style of one. Not a fan.

Pour from a 12oz bottle. Clear golden brew with frothy white head. Aroma of hops, citrus. Taste is sweet malt at the start with a decent grass / citric finish. Mild and quaffable all around but more character than the vast majority of light brews (and more than many standard brews.) If I drank light beer Iíd switch to this.

Pretty flavorful for a light beer. The whole concept of an 'after workout' beer is great. Pours a clear amber. Mild bitterness but pretty run of the mill. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a light gold, with white head. Aroma of hops and citrus. Taste is light and very drinkable. A refreshing citrusy blend. The perfect beer for a warm summer day. Thumbs up!

I do tend to enjoy New Belgiumís lighter beers more than most but this one is not really doing it for me. It is also another point of evidence indicating there has never been a really good beer brewed w/ kaffir lime leaves. Seriously, I donít know what those even are except for something you throw into your shitty beer for no good reason. Skinny Dip is a perfectly clear golden brew that has a foamy and short lived head. Nose and flavor both are pleasantly light and mild but this beer doesnít really offer anything at all to grab your attention. I am getting some Grape Nuts malt character and an almost imperceptible touch of lemon lime flavor which is perhaps just the knowledge of those damn leaves getting the best of my imagination. As it warms, it does open up a bit w/ some more citrus notes coming out as well as some fruity apple yeast character. This is fittingly light bodied and highly carbonated and finishes w/ some earthy bitterness. This is stuff isnít bad to drink but really I think New Belgium offers some way better choices if you are into something light and refreshing. Check out either Snap Shot or Shift for a lighter beer from the same brewery that wonít bore you to death.

Bottle. Pours gold with a white head. Light citrus hops, barley and a hint of lime in the aroma and taste. Best beer ever? No, but far from the worst as well.

It pours a light golden with a white head with larger than normal bubbles in the head., There is a fair amount of lacing that is produced as the head disappears. The aroma had floral notes mixed with yeast. There are some citrus tones as well. It is a bit watery for the taste with some hops, citrus, and a semi dry finish. It has a bit more carbonation than is needed which takes away from the taste.
