COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editor’s note: in 2006, Skinny Dip replaced Loft as the name of New Belgium’s low-alcohol, low-calorie summer seasonal (only minor changes in recipe; i.e. still approximately 4% ABV and spiced with Kaffir lime leaf).

Skinny Dip Description: New Belgium’s Skinny Dip started out as a challenge from our founder Jeff to brewmaster, Peter Bouckaert. Jeff was looking for a full-bodied, highly drinkable beer for after workouts - something a little lighter than the rest of the portfolio. Peter, a Belgian, responded: “Only in America would I be asked to brew a beer with no calories and less alcohol.” The challenge was to give the beer body and complexity not usually found in beers at the lighter end of the spectrum. The result is Skinny Dip, a full-bodied beer that happens to weigh in at a crisp 114 calories per 12-ounce serving. Cascade hops frolic with a hint of lime leaf, making Skinny Dip a bright, refreshing splash for the summer season.

Loft Description: In a category all its own, Loft delivers an uplifting zest, a taut line of hoppiness, and, from integrated wheat and barley malt, a mouthful as big as the sky. Spiced with Kaffir lime leaves.

Old review from notes. Light orange color and frothy white head. Some fruit in the nose. A bit watery and lacking in overall taste, but maintains the New Belgium earthiness. Easy to drink warm weather beer, but fairly vanilla by NB standards.

Reviewed 06/26/10 Poured from bottle to pint glass. A: light orange, absolute clarity. Continuous ribbon resotres the paper thin white film capping the ale. S: Smells like a standard pilsener. Only unique grace befalls the slight lime accent, which is a pleasant touch. T: Tastes like a light amber, really light. Lime unfortunately does not make it to the flavor of the beer, and leaves itself to the nose. M: Quite carbonated, almost a burning sensation as buds are attacked with constant expulsion of gas from ale. Med bodied. D: Although the beer isn’t bad, I will be unlikely to purchase again in near future. Serving type: bottle 12-20-2010

Bottle poured into a snifter. Pours a slightly hazy dark orange with a finger of white head. Aroma of light floral hops, some baking spices and just a hint of citrus. Taste is light bitter. Floral and herbal. Light bodied with a thin texture. Livelycarbonation and a decently long finish. Overall, not bad. Not my favorite but very drinkable.

pours a hazy golden color. aroma is rather light, some faint citrus and pine as well as wet hay. the taste starts off with citrus and pine up front but not strong and in my opinion finishes real week. the beer is not terrible by any means and is definitely worth the try and I would definitely recommend this over a bud light any day.

Serving type: bottle Appearance- Clear golden amber with quick diapering head, nice lacing Aroma- smell hops and caramel malt T/P- Hoppy and caramel malt. With a slight bit to it. Overall - I was not impressed with this beer at all; it is not on the top of my list from New Belgium Brewing. The only thing that I can say that sums up this beer for me is that I only drank half of it, and would not chooses it again.

Very different than what i expected. A very piney taste mixed with a citrus zest. Does have a mouthfeel on the watery light side but not in a bad way like your no taste all carbonation lite beer. I say worth giving a shot if you are trying to relax after a scorching day. Tastier too than your standard bud miller coors.

Damn, I wish this was "low calorie, low alcohol" before I opened it. Oh we'll, at least it was free. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Slightly hazy gold pour. Nose of biscuity/lightly bready malt with a citrus-lemon type zest aroma. Simple wet wheat/biscuit malt/golden grain flavor with more citrus zest and a faint, bland hop finish. Clean and light.
