COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editor’s note: in 2006, Skinny Dip replaced Loft as the name of New Belgium’s low-alcohol, low-calorie summer seasonal (only minor changes in recipe; i.e. still approximately 4% ABV and spiced with Kaffir lime leaf).

Skinny Dip Description: New Belgium’s Skinny Dip started out as a challenge from our founder Jeff to brewmaster, Peter Bouckaert. Jeff was looking for a full-bodied, highly drinkable beer for after workouts - something a little lighter than the rest of the portfolio. Peter, a Belgian, responded: “Only in America would I be asked to brew a beer with no calories and less alcohol.” The challenge was to give the beer body and complexity not usually found in beers at the lighter end of the spectrum. The result is Skinny Dip, a full-bodied beer that happens to weigh in at a crisp 114 calories per 12-ounce serving. Cascade hops frolic with a hint of lime leaf, making Skinny Dip a bright, refreshing splash for the summer season.

Loft Description: In a category all its own, Loft delivers an uplifting zest, a taut line of hoppiness, and, from integrated wheat and barley malt, a mouthful as big as the sky. Spiced with Kaffir lime leaves.

A nice, light ale for Summer. The Cascade hops and the Kaffir lime leaves give it a crisp flavor and a refreshing finish.

Very drinkable at first, but then gets old. Creamy. Light body, kinda buttery. Smooth.

Crystal clear golden copper pour. Thick course white head with ok lacing. Dank hop aroma with bready Pilsen malt. Breadiness leads the flavors. Euro hop profiles with some dankness come second. Decent lawn mower beer. ---Rated via iPhone

Clean, crisp looking. Lime and a subtle earthiness is pronounced in the taste. Just a little bitterness in the finish. Easy drinking but also fairly watery. Not much going on here.

Bottle @ home picked up at Wilbur’s Fort Collins in their 12 bottle mixed pack. Pours a clear dark golden appearance with a tan head. Pretty crisp, dry, somewhat spicy, lightly grainy, mild citrusy aroma. A bit tangy, lemon/lime, dry chalky grainy, a bit spicy, easy drinking beer. Glad to see this make a comeback.

Bottle from the 2002 Revival 12-pack. Pour is clear golden with a huge, fluffy white head and great lacing. Wheaty, grassy, somewhat stale hoppy, bready aroma. Taste is wheaty, grassy, bready, biscuity, orange peel, and citrusy with a light bitter bite on the finish. Light body with high carbonation. Easy-to-drink and refreshing, but really kind-of muted and boring.

2002 revival Loft. Pours a perfectly clear light gold with very bubbly white foam. Smells slightly sweet with a hint of lemon, but mostly herbal. Tastes slightly sweet and herbal. Honestly tasted better out of the bottle than the glass.

Pours golden color with white head. Malt, citrus, caramel and grassy aromas. Malt and earthy flavors. Think body with dry finish. Better than expected.

Bright yellow/orange with a modest white head and ok lace. Hay and grass aromas with hints of citrus. Flavors are similar with a touch of spiciness. Light body, lively carbonation, thin mouthfeel and a short finish. very refreshing.

12 oz bottle from Folly Pack. Labeled "Loft". The kaffir lime leaf is surprisingly present and quite nice. If I didn’t know I would probably mistake it for a weird hop, but that’s definitely what it is. Very refreshing. Crisp. Flavorful. Malt is just a tiny bit dirty. If it were me, I would ease of the hop bitterness a bit, and sour a little portion berliner weisse style.
