Commercial Description:
Ale brewed with wormwood, goji berries, and schisandra. Deftly, this spring brewed venture lands on its feet. Springboard combines oats, ancient Chinese herbs and Mt. Hood hops to maintain a balanced equilibrium for such an exhilarating ale. This cloudy blonde has a spirited threshold, and a creamy body, followed by a refreshingly dry finish.

Found this one bottled at the Jewel-Osco in South Elgin, Illinois. Hazy, dark yellow pour with a thick, white head. Very grassy, nose of hay, with a touch of sweet grapefruity citrus. Bright, citrusy and sweet, with some lemongrass. Reminded me of a German wheat beer. Smooth mouthfeel, and a soft finish. This is a nice spring ale.

12 oz sample bottle from the MN New Belgium rep. Best by June 08. Aroma of musty wicker furniture, dust, dry, mid-summer hay bale, rotting orange peel and an odd spice I can’t put my finger on. Pours hazy straw yellow with a thin but lasting white head leaving so so lacing. Flavor is crisp, dry with a bit of grass, honey, lemon zest and some wheat esters. Medium bodied. Prickly carbonation. Not a whole lot going on beside the odd nose.

Mar. 2007 - Pale yellow cloudy pour, with decent head and good lacing. Aroma and flavor is grassy with a touch of fruity bananas and lemon flavor. Silky smooth mouthfeel and a bitter finish. Not sure what this is, but I liked it just fine.

Hazy golden yellow hue with a quick white head. Malty, grassy wheat aromas with a hint of citrus. Good carbonation and a medium body. Herby flavors with a malt showing. Sweet citrus undertones. Flat non descript finish.

Bottled, clear bright yellow color with some white head and lots of carbonation. Strange funky aroma that sort of smells like cheap Andre champagne gone bad, mixed with macro swill lager, like a spiced Budweiser or something. Flavor is a bit more enjoyable, but that’s not saying too much. Sweet berry notes and a character that reminds me of apple cider. Carbonated and dry finish that leaves an unpleasant swill pale lager stank on the tongue. Not the worst, but I can say I won’t be trying this again.

12 oz. bottle; best by 06JUN08. Well, pours kind of a sickly pale with just a twinge of yellow in the thicker part of the glass. Foamy head leaves lots of lace on the glass. Smell does show some lemon, puts me in mind of a weizen more than anything else. Can’t think of anything to compare the taste too, it seems. Citrusy, kind of spicy. I don’t know those spices on their description, so it seems somewhat like a Celestial Seasonings energy drink. Sharp, spicy tickle right in the middle of my tongue that no other beer has provided (gawd, I hope it’s not something I’m allergic to!). Not that bad, I guess, and it might make a nice spring beer. I took a chance on a whole six pack, so I’ll see if my opinion become more definite.
