RunDWP (140), San Jose, California, USA Apr 6, 2008 Updated: Apr 7, 2008 Given them credit for trying something original. I’m not sure we should be giving them credit for coming up with something good. What an unusual beer this is. Has cloudy, pale yellow color, with a herbal aroma. You can taste a little hops, and the wormwood, with a little light smokey flavor in the background, like smoked tea. (Is that the gojo berries and schisandra?)
The taste isn’t for everyone, and hard core hop-heads will probably not like it. All the tinkering with different woods gives this a slightly woody taste, which I didn’t find to be a good thing. A complex taste to be sure, but it hit and missed with all the different flavor notes.
Goes down very smooth, and is slightly creamy on the tongue. Would taste good with fish or Japanese food.
phishpond417 (1360), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Aug 20, 2008 Another brew courtesy of some kind of phriends: Pours a bright golden colour, not too cloudy. Aroma is sweet and enticing, noticeable wheat and ripe gojis which i loved- Taste was smooth, light and creamy with nice berry character, semi sweet wheat and tropical tones. Awesome beer :) NoiZe (875), Zeist, Netherlands Aug 12, 2008 Tasted somewhere along my trip through the States.
Cloudy yellow colored brew. Spicy and herbal aroma. Flavor is herbal and grassy, spicy and sweet malty touch. Interesting. csbosox (956), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Jul 26, 2008 bb 06June08. Smokestack chalice.
Aroma is very herbal, light citrus, toasty/cracker-like, honey. Gold colored with a smallish head. Taste is toasty, herbal, with touch of vanilla. A little tannic, with a full mouthfeel, but a dry finish. An interesting beer, to be sure. The first time I had something about the beer turned me off greatly, but it seems the one aspect of the beer that I disagreed with is no longer something that bother me.
Homer321 (63), Rockledge, Florida, USA Jul 18, 2008 pous a hazy yellow color with large head. slight sour citrus in the noise, some spices. wormwood is not evident in the nose or taste. slight woody flavor may be due to the oak aging. not bad, but I wonder what the purpose was. I can’t think that this sells that much. Sparky27 (498), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Jul 17, 2008 Bottle. Pours a cloudy, light honey color with a big, billowy 3 finger white head with spotty lacing. Nose is slightly weird sour smell upfront with lemon grass and spice. Taste is similar to the aroma. Medium mouth feel. Strange brew, eh.
