Wonderful hops are coming out of Australia and New Zealand all of a sudden, full of tropical notes and aromas. The idea for a Down Under IPA builds an ethereal hop structure of Pacific Gem and Nelson Sauvin from New Zeland and Australian Galaxy atop a medium weight pale ale. In addition, the exotic aroma of the hops is augmented with actual passion fruit. Brewed with pale and Crisp 77° crystal malt.

tried it at the Elysian on 9/16.. A very refreshing pre fall IPA, not as hoppy as expected for an IPA possibly due to the passion fruit leveling the hops...my favorite beer of this summer...

Really, I can’t recommend this. Cloudy orange with thick head. Aroma is fruit, passion fruit and spice. No note of hoppiness in the light body. Tastes like fruit juice, could almost be an alcopop

On Tap at The Front Door, Boise. Hazy light orange and a full but fleeting white head. Big mild fruity aroma and flavor. Melon and tangerine. Moderate late bitterness with some tangy bitter orange peel at the finish. A fruity different IPA.

Draft at the Elysian Pike Street. Pours a cloudy bright orange with a dense and creamy white disc of mousse atop. Big fruity tangy nose, showing tangerines. Creamy medium body with lively carb. Tangy, fruity, sweet mid-palate: caramel, residual sugars, tangerines. Could be a little more balanced.

Nose of some caramel, sweeter malts, tea, light tropical fruit juice, and generic hop aromas. Pours hazy amber golden, thin head. The flavor is nice and tropical with a softer malt base, some citrus fruity hop notes, and a rather tropical almost fruit juicy finish. Interesting.

Draft at naked city. Pours a dull dirty copper golden with a listless head. Nose is lightly resinous, touch of fruit and mostly b.o. sprinkled with some crystal malt. Fortunately, the flavor is much more pleasant. The fruit comes out more on the palate...tropical, but lightly earthy/dusty which from what I remember is more inline with passion fruit, the malt doesn’t over power...but does lend to the sweetness of the fruit, and then there is a slight hop presence in the end that dries it out just a touch.

Clear amber color/ lasting ivory sheen. Mild pine, berry fruit, caramel aromas. Medium body. Pine, floral hoppy flavors with lightly sweet berry fruit, pale malts--good.

Had this on tap at Naked City. The waitress said it was not good, and tasted really lemony. Well, she was wrong and not friendly. This beer is smothered in grapefruit and citrus. Borders on tangy. It doesn’t taste like they put fruit juice in it, but more like a uniquely hopped beer. Excellent departure from the average IPA.

Tap @ Naked City Seattle. Cloudy, colorful orange appearance with a fluffy, large off white head. Nice lacing. Dank, piney, passion fruit, citrusy nose. Citrusy, passion fruit, somewhat sour, piney hoppy flavor. Slightly sour, moderately citrusy, passion fruit, bitter aftertaste. Pretty cool beer, though I probably couldn’t have more than one in a sitting.
