COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In a never-ending quest to create new beers and defy category, New Belgium Brewing and Brewerij Boon of Belgium have partnered together again to create Transatlantique Kriek - a spontaneously fermented lambic ale made with Polish cherries. This authentic kriek beer began life in the oaken vessels at Frank Boon’s brewery in the Lembeek region of Belgium. After more than two years aging, Boon’s offering shipped across the Atlantic and found its way to the intuitive palate of New Belgium’s Brewmaster Peter Bouckaert. After much sampling and internal consultation, Peter and his brew staff created a full-bodied golden lager to round out the light-bodied kriek. The cherry nose gives way to a pleasingly sour flash across the palate that rolls gently into a slightly sweet finish. Crisp, effervescent carbonation keeps the mouthfeel bright and delightfully tingly. Previously 6.3

Stone Sour Fest 09. Decent kriek, with typical kriek characteristics, but nothing really stands out about the beer. Thin character, beyond the typical tart and cherry flavors. Drinkable, but not necessarily desirable.

22 oz bottle. Red with a fizzy light pink head. Aroma of pie cherries, earthy barnyard and some oak. Flavor is mildly sour cherry with light cracker malt presence and no alcohol taste. Medium body with average to low carbonation and a dryish mouth feel. Nice fruit beer, the cherry flavor is there but not overly sour.

Pours a light ruby with a skimming head. Aroma is of tart cherries and some alcohol. Taste follows but down just a notch. The after taste is where this beer excels. A the sourness comes out with loads of cherries. Pretty damn good beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle - Drinking this with my wife in a dark hotel room as my ome year old sleeps, so forgive me for an abbreviated appearance description. By the light of my cellphone it looks reddish amber with a fine-bubbled white head. Refreshingly tart nose, with cherry juice, lemon rind, and a sour graininess. Really bold pungent nose, but also very approachable. Taste dials down the tartness--there’s more of the citrus rind bitterness, bit more of a soft, non-mouth-puckering tartness. Sourheads may not find this intense enough, but I liked the balance. My mouth doesn’t have to be sour-raped for me to enjoy a sour beer. The cherries are present, and giving a faint, lasting sweetness through the finish. I don’t know why, but I expectes this to be thicker. As is, it’s light, fizzy, and just right. I liked this beer a lot, though not the $15.99 pricetag.

Notes from a tasting held in April of 2011. Thanks to Mikey for bringing this bottle.
Aroma:cherries, slight funk
Taste: bright cherry, some tartness, cherry pie notes
Overall: This is an easy drinking beer. Light funk might make it easier for someone to get into sours/wild ale. A gateway beer.

22 oz. bottle shared by Tmoney99. Pours a cloudy pink to reddish amber color with a small pink head. The aroma has tart cherries with the peels, hints of wood and a light buttery note. The flavor has tart black cherry, light acidity, wood, and some floral notes. The body is a touch watery and the finish is soft.

Bottle. Poured reddish brown color and an average frothy off-white head that mostly diminished with fair lacing. Moderate cherry tart fruit aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and lively carbonation. Medium tart cherry flavor with a medium tart finish of moderate duration. Refreshing fruit beer.

Bottle:   Okay, now thats a pink head!   Color is pale violet, small frothy head (pink), with decent lacing.   Cherry concentrate on the nose, miniscule woodiness.   Smells interesting enough.   Mmmmm... semi-sweet yet tart, cherry is of the not quite ripe flavor... or at least it has that sourness of young cherries.   Good balance on the tongue, sweetness to start, becoming a little tart in the middle with a dryness on the backside.   Wood aspect is minor.   As it warms a little perfume or floral aspects come out a bit more.   Almost want to say Chamomile.   8% ABV is well hidden, comes across as perhaps a 6% beer instead.   I recall the original in teh 12oz bottle as being less tart and more fake.   This is a change for the better.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Lingering dryness, even a little puckering at the finish.   Pleasantly surprised with this one.   Only downside is its $14 for a 22oz bottle.   Enjoyable and well balanced at least.

Bomber. Pours a faintly pinkish golden with a pillowy pinkish head. Aroma is sour cherries but pretty mild. Flavor is slightly sweet and sour cherry, a bit of funk, a bit of malt. It’s nice, but I like full on lambics and sours. I found this to need some more oomph. Tasted rather thin, but then I guess that makes for a light, refreshing sour. Which, upon reflection, is also a good thing. Crisp, fizzy carbonation.
