Butters (1622), Virginia, USA Sep 2, 2009 12 oz bottle pours a clear dark gold with a large, quick fading, near white head. Nose of banana, alcohol, and vanilla. Flavor is cloyingly sweet, and a has a good bit of alcohol burn, with an unusual, though not wholey unpleasant, toasted buttery biscuit finish. About what i’ve come to expect from an american version of the style, just with a slightly boozy biscuit spin. daknole (2802), Plantation, Florida, USA Sep 2, 2009 Bottle. Gold pour. Fruit, yeast, hops and some bready notes. Flavor is crisp and a bit hot. Some tropical fruit, hops and caramel malt. Good. cprochak (388), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 30, 2009 On tap at the brewery at 7/18/09. Pours clear gold with bubbly head. Aroma of banana bread and brown sugar. Very smooth, mild taste. A little buttery mouthfeel. Alcohol hidden very well. DJMonarch (6036), Northwich, Cheshire, England Aug 24, 2009 From the Jug at the GABF Colorado Convention Center, Denver 10/10/2008
Floral and malt aromas. Clear golden coloured strong in alcohol and fruity with a crisp and slightly bitter finish. Sonicdescent (374), Donora, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 22, 2009 Pours a gold with a very nice resillient white one finger of head and great lacing.
Smells of bread/belgian yeast, orange peel, and some other spices.
Taste is almost an exact mirror of the smell. This seems like an intro to the style and on the opposite end of a Fin Du Monde.
Dry finish, medium bodied and high carbonation.
Easy enough to drink and a good beginners intro to the style. Nena (120), Seattle, Washington, USA Aug 22, 2009 This beer was one of my first loves when I first started buying beer for myself. I haven’t tried it since I started tasting a greater variety of beer in the past year, so I decided to give it a fresh go. Pours golden with some visible carbonation. Aroma is very herbal with some cloves, and reminds me of bananas. Flavor is sweet, fruity, distinctly yeasty, with some hops. I’ve decided this is still a favorite, and a great beer for a very low price. potbeercollege (252), Boulder, Colorado, USA Aug 21, 2009 Bottled. Similar to Abbey with a lighter appearance and a thinner tan head. Sweet malty aroma, is booming with notes of fruitiness and spices. Tastes of yeast and spicy malt sweetness. Alcohol prevalent but less so than Abbey. FlssmrBrewAlum (1079), Lisle, Illinois, USA Aug 17, 2009 12 oz bottle courtesy of the Binnys Singles Rack (Orland Park, IL). Poured into a fluted glass, pours a just lightly hazed lighter golden hue, well carbonated, moderate bright white creamy head that dies to a decent level, laces fairly well. Aromas are lemon rind, banana, a touch of apple, light Belgian yeasty spice, fruit forward with a stronger lemony zesy than usual. Initial is lighter bodied, a bit sweet with good fruitiness, banana, pear, and lemon, with light spice and a dash or coriander, decent Belgian yeasty character that isn’t towards the cloying end of candy sugar sweetness but is definitely there. Lighter fare, and lighter ABV for the style I think. Finish is fruity, light bitterness tempered by fruity dominance. A nice brew, overall.
