ratman197 (3137), Arvada, Colorado, USA Apr 17, 2007 Bottle poured a clear golden yellow with a large lasting white head. Aromas of banana, apple, sweet malt and a bit of spice. Palate was light bodied and crisp yet smooth. Flavors of spice, banana, light pineapple and a hint of carmel with a smooth lingering bittersweet finish. kkearn (994), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 16, 2007 Bottle. sampled most recently at Monk’s Cafe New Belgium dinner 4/10/07. Clear golden color, with a thick white head. Aroma primarily yeasty, with a bit a hops. flavor is earthy with clove, spice and hops. I picked up a bit of menthol as it warmed. enjoyable trippel. sspc (17), Texas, USA Apr 15, 2007 very good beer. light nose but great flavor. it has some great spicy flavors that i have never found in another tripple. also there seems to be a slight roast flavor, although the beer is very light in color. may be they roast some oats and mash them in graham515 (420), Houston, Texas, USA Apr 11, 2007 A nice golden color into the glass with a good off white head that holds for a while. The aroma is very very yeasty. Smells alot like a saison. The taste is very subdued in terms of alcohol, but its got a good character to it. Very floral and yeasty. CharlesDarwin (1822), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA Apr 2, 2007 12 Oz Bottle. A bit of a meaty pear ambiance to the aroma, light in Belgian yeasts and nipped with rosy hop powder. Stewed apple in the background. Pour of crystal clear brassy gold, with a settling foam of smooth clean white. Initial flavors are a little rough and scary, but then relax. Coarse baked apple skins, heavy desert vegetal and a mouthful of mineral dust. Almost with vitamins. However, there is some styrofoam and bandaid in there that I just can’t get over, but I really can’t glean that it’s infected. Maybe that’s where the meaty yeasts come through? A spicy Indian grass blows up the background of the beer, with nice balance. This creates some unique mingling with the questionable esters and phenols. If I had to guess, I’d say fusels got a little heavy. Cleans out as I drink it some more, with a more pleasent peppery and rosehip suave. It needed to breath and open a little, I feel. Actually, a stunning beauty when you come down to it. Drinkable, unique and full of character, with a great finish. After the rough start, this beer finishes gracefully. dillinja (24), Boulder, Colorado, USA Apr 2, 2007 Bottle from Pettyjohn’s in Boulder. This was my intro to Belgian-style beers, and I give it a hell-yeah. Pours a brilliant golden color, and has a nose like Toucan Sam. Smells spicy and exciting while that head crackles and fades off the top. This beer convinced me that a few spicy and flowery notes can be good (yeah I’m a Belgian noob, what). The alcohol lets the flavors cut in for the first dance, then catches up coming down the gullet - a warm and welcome finish. jimhilt (1663), Bow, New Hampshire, USA Mar 28, 2007 Pours a five finger off-white head that fades quickly to a thin layer leaving a good lace. Clear amber color. Light carbonation and light-medium bodied. Malty/hoppy nose. Flavor begins slightly malty, some honey then some sour notes. Higher ABV is hidden. Best before Nov 2006. $1.30 for a 12oz bottle from Liquid Solutions Tigard, Or. zamco17 (134), Corpus Christi, Texas, USA Mar 26, 2007 pours a golden pale yellow. smell is slightly belgian. tatse is full bodied, but no too harsh. nice easy finish. easily my favorite new belgium yet.
