valpoaj (362), Valparaiso, Indiana, USA Feb 2, 2007 Pours a nice color with a lasting white head. Bready, yet citrusy aroma is very pleasing. Flavor yields instant citrus flavors, particularly lemon, and quickly evolves into a nice, complex hoppy flavor that is nicely balanced with an excellent finish. Palate is above-average...a high quality beer that, although I have always enjoyed New Belgium products, was better than expected Moz (613), Gothenburg, Sweden Jan 19, 2007 Bottle. Golden colour with a large white head. Nice aroma, citrus, yeast, hops and it’s also a bit spicy. Flavour is, well, Belgian... Sweet fruits, malts & caramel. scraff (1921), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Jan 18, 2007 Clear chill hazed gold, thick creamy white head. Nose had some complexities that were unexpected, but well received without doubt. Nice tones of sweet bananas, corriander, earthy wood, florals, and hints of breadiness. Flavor was very similar, but a surprise peppery floral hop bitterness pulls it together for a good balancing act. Medium to full bodied, moderate carbonation, spiced, softly bittersweet finish. A great take on the style... lagermonkey (597), Marietta, Georgia, USA Jan 16, 2007 Pours a lightly hazy bright gold with a dense ivory head and sheeting lace on the walls of my Chimay goblet. Smells of sweet pale malt and light sweet spice.
Tastes quite bitter. Spicy noble hops, lemon peel, biscuity pale malt, peppery spice. Mouth is sweetish but not sticky. There’s a driness in the finish that hold sthe sweetness at bay. Full bodied and the hops linger in the aftertaste. Really good stuff. A wow beer for me. BrandonB (87), Denton, Texas, USA Jan 16, 2007 Bottle. Nice golden pour with a fluffy white head. A nice sweet citrus flavor with some smooth malt taste. DaMenace123 (250), Houston, Texas, USA Jan 15, 2007 Clear golden color with a small head that leaves a layer of foam. Citrusy aroma with some yeast. Flavor starts out as a biting citrus hoppy taste, but goes down with an yeasty, creamy malt flavor. Good brew. RedHaze (370), Where the hell am I?, Nebraska, USA Jan 14, 2007 Pours a slightly hazy pale golden color with a one inch white head that settles somewhat quickly but leaves a solid cap that never faeds and the subsequent lacing is substantial..
Smell; loads of coriander and Belgian yeast, with a little bit of hay. There’s apricots with some oranges and bananas, with some floral to medium bo.
Taste; yeasty with a nice fruity backbone of bananas, oranges and apricots with good bit of spiciness thrown in. There’s a nice bread dough quality, that’s balanced by a little bit of a herbal hop bitterness with a little bit of an alcohol presence, but it does no detract from the beer at all. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied, and very drinkable I could have a few bottles of this in one night if the alcohol didn’t make me fall asleep. talon1117 (612), Bellvue, Colorado, USA Jan 14, 2007 Updated: Mar 19, 2007BB10-07. Sparkling orange-golden color; head is very full, creamy but slightly rocky, and brilliant white with it being somewhat lasting and leaving random lace. Nose is lots of orange peel, pepper, Belgian yeast, floral, and light banana with some subtle toasty caramel. Flavor is similar, orange peel, spicy pepper, plenty of yeast, light banana bread note, maybe some clove in there; bitterness is medium-low but the spiciness adds some separation from the malt sweetness. Palate is very lively, medium in body, and a creamy/watery feel to it. Finishes a little short, as with a lot of tripels, with banana, clove and pepper, spicy and sweet. Nice tripel with more spice than most and certainly refreshing in comparison to most of the style from Begium. Nice to have such great beers from a brewery in my backyard, almost literally.
