Styles (1653), Lincoln Park, Michigan, USA Jun 19, 2006 Hazy golden yellow with medium sized head. Fades to film eventually. Appears quite oily in the glass. Aroma is full of yeast and spicy floral notes. Banana, apple, pear in the background. Flavor is not bad just a tad weak. Yeatsy fruit up front with some more floral and spice notes, with some alcohol warming affect. Decent overall, just flavor detracts from score. rybowen (105), Los Angeles 90039, California, USA Jun 18, 2006 Great trippel - nice golden/bronze color with wonderful clove yeasty aromas.
A nice trippel - hard to find in CA but worth the trip to AZ or CO to taste. Good stuff. Kevster (222), Bradenton, Florida, USA Jun 17, 2006 Bottle: Pours golden in color with a frothy off-white head that diminishes slowly leaving nice lacing. Aroma is yeasty and floral. Malty flavor is sweet leading to a smooth citrus finish. A good choice if you can’t get this style of beer from Belgium. madcow75 (425), Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, USA Jun 15, 2006 Bottle. Pours gold and bubbly with a thin white fizzy head. Good lacing all the way till the end. Yeast aroma, some banana. Taste has some spice in it, initially reminds me of cloves, yeast, banana, then finishes with some citrus and dry. Medium body and carbonated. Seems kind of light. cbkschubert (1945), Cochise Co., Arizona, USA Jun 15, 2006 Pours a clear golden color with a faint head. Light carbonation. Has a grassy, yeast aroma. Spicey, grassy flavor. Medium body. I don’t know what else to say. I’m just not a fan of Belgium beers. bgoguen (53), Colorado, USA Jun 8, 2006 Most everyone else has said it already. Compared to a real Belgian Triple, this is no comparison. However, I will say that it has some interesting things going on. It has some similar banana and spicy, tangy notes like NB’s Abbey, but more crisp and slightly less herbal. Once again, at eight bucks a six-pack vs. eight bucks a bottle for an imported triple – it’s a strictly monetary decision. Quality or availability/value. If you have the money go buy a Chimay Triple and you’ll see the difference. And then if you can find them go pick up a Gouden Carolus, St. Bernardus, Delerium Tremens, and maybe a la Rulles triple and really see the difference. If you can’t find any of those then track down a La Fin Du Monde from Unibroue. jimmack (1221), Nutley, New Jersey, USA Jun 6, 2006 Bottle. Clear golden color with a small white head. Spicy, fruity aroma of coriander, bananas and black pepper. The flavor was a cross between a tripel and a wit. It was yeasty, grassy with banana and coriander. Interesting take on the style. I liked it quite a bit. eaglefan538 (2355), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Jun 5, 2006 A pretty disappointing beer within style. Poured light amber color with zero head and no lacing. The aroma was the best part, with some apples and spices coming through an overall musty smell. The mouthfeel was light for a tripel, the flavor only average or so: an American wheat type base taste with some floral aspects, candi sugaring, and light apples. The strength of hopping was the only solid part of the showing. The fact that this one had an expiration date only a year after purchasing ought to tell you that it ain’t no true Belgian, despite the brewer’s name.
