waolsen (1220), Littleton, Colorado, USA May 8, 2006 tap at brewery. golden pour with no head. lemongrass and classic floral belgium aroma. lemon belgium. very nice. frizzzzle (64), Overland Park, Kansas, USA May 5, 2006 This one pours crystal clear, a sort of bright tan-yellow color. There’s lots of carbonation in the glass, and a creamy white head. Shortly after the pour, a quick swish releases a subdued candy malt aroma, with a tinge of grassy hops. The carbonation is less apparent in the mouth, and although distinctly foamy, it’s a lot less than I expect in a trippel. The flavor is again of light candied malt, with a bit of grassiness, and next to no bitterness to be found. Overall, this is a decent brew, although I’m admittedly disappointed. It’s definitely a trippel, but lacks a lot of the trademarks of the style I expected when I picked it up. bigbish (138), Colorado, USA May 5, 2006 A great beer! Some hops and lots of spice on the nose. Nice dark yellow color, moderate carbonation with little head. A great malty flavor. Would buy again in a heartbeat! GreatLibations (1440), Last Supper, Arizona, USA May 3, 2006 Escape from Alkatraz is all I could think of as I poured this brew into my official tasing goblet. The effers shot up from the bottom liquid to fill the remainder of the 18oz of space in the glass. It’s a 30oz goblet. After the froth subsided to half I sipped and found not a trace of carbonation left in the nectar. Oh well, the froth was a might tasty, kinda creamy. It poured a pale yellow with a huge frothy head. Aroma was tropical perfume and spice. Nectar weight was medium with a creamy texture. No residual effers, not one. Fruity flavors up front including beer candy, banana, sweet cream, and some mellow citrus. The finish is fruity also with no bittering at all. I was actually surprised how similar to a true Belgian it drank. Overall: Mellow, soft, and fruity. Well ballanced and alcohol is hidden. Saarlander (1577), Saarlouis, Germany May 3, 2006 Nice gold pour, small head. A nice spicy flavor, citrus, doughy, abit sticky, overall quite good! thanks to Tjthresh for the brew! SDalkoholic (1186), Chula Vista, California, USA May 2, 2006 Bottle: Golden with small amounts of dust flakes and head is a thing layer of foam. Lively aroma of true Belgian yeast and small notes of banana, clove and spice. The drink is both heavy and smooth with a full body and light creaminess in the finish. Strong flavors of clove are found with minor reminders of the aroma again. Impressive tripel.
Snojerk321 (1919), San Diego, California, USA Apr 30, 2006 Pours a clear deep golden color with a nice laceing off white head. Nose yeast, some fruits and different spices. Interesting tingly mouthfeel. Not the best tripple I’ve had,,,,but pretty damn good. weeare138 (933), Collegeville, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 24, 2006 Updated: Nov 9, 2006Appears a hazy gold with a lush white head that slowly fades into a small head. Scattered lacing was left around the glass.
Smell is of typical Belgian yeast aroma, spices, with a mild corn syrup smell & some sugary sweetness.
Taste is of sugary pils malt with some corn syrup, perhaps some Munich in there with a touch of yeastiness.
Mouthfeel is quite full bodied and lively for a tripel. Tingly on the lips, hitting the center of the tongue, swee at first, with a chalky dougyness that lingers on the tongue.
Edit: 11/9/06
Taste is better than originally reviewed. Similar to the original flavors but a sugary, citrusy, tropical, slight candy flavor, along with a touch of creamy vanilla. Old score was a 7.
Smell is phenolic, sugary, mildly corny but in check for a trippel with some tropical fruit notes and apricots evident with vanilla. Old score was a 7.
Mouthfeel is smooth with a yeastyness that carries some phenols along the palate. A light sugary burn up front.
Drinkability overall is better than originally quoted at a 14.
