COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Trippel Belgian Style Ale (pronounced triple) opens with a bold blast of hops that slowly gives way to the fruity esters implied by our Belgian yeast strain. The Three Graces hand-painted on the label are Zeus’s daughters Aglaia (splendor), Euphrosyne (mirth) and Thalia (good cheer). In the Belgian tradition of brewing singles, doubles and triples, Trippel is the strongest with the longest fermentation. Remarkably smooth and complex, our bottle-conditioned Trippel is spiced with a trace of coriander.

Tasted from bottle into tulip glass. Poured a mostly clear golden-amber color with some chill haze and fluffy white foam, long-lasting with some Belgian lace. Aromas of grain, rising bread dough, some spice, citrus and pepper from combination of coriander and Belgian ale fermentation. Malty-sweetness is balanced by bittering and light flavoring hops, not a very complex grainbill, but hints of bread and biscuits. That’s true-to-style, though, in order to accentuate the spicy and fruity fermentation. Light-medium body, effervescent mouthfeel, mostly dry finish. High alcohol percentage is well-hidden, but you can feel it afterwards. Perhaps not the most sophisticated Belgian Trippel, but certainly well-crafted and remarkably easy to drink. Just think, this beer is substantially higher ABV than macro malt liquors which are almost undrinkable.

Location/Date: November 2011 ratings catchup.

Appearance: Pours a golden copper.
Aroma: Aroma of is of light bitterness and corriander.
Taste: Similar to aroma, bitter but sweet.
Palate: Medium body.

Summary: Decent, I’m not a big Tripel fan.

Decent beer, but in the trippel category it’s not great. Sweet, drinkable, but lacking the depth of flavor or body of the best trippels. New Belgium makes a lot of outstanding beers, but this wouldn’t be my favorite.

Growler poured into snifter. Beautiful clear pale orange color with a substantial soapy head. Soft, pleasant aroma of belgian spice, yeast, fruity esters, a hint of banana and barnyard notes. A little thin and soft on the palate. Taste is solid and starts with a nice dose of hops before a bitter middle gives way to boozey, spicy finish that lingers nicely. Aroma qualities are represented well plus maybe a slight sugar cookie-like taste. A tad flat it seems, not sure if that’s the growler pour or not. I’ve def had several better trippels but this is good for an American effort at this price.

Well this is kind of how I pictured it beforehand. Aroma has some definite coriander and a tad bit of funk. Pours a clear dark gold with a bubbly white head that fades quickly. Taste has a nice spice to it, some syrupy malt sweetness. Definitely has a touch of flavor that lets you know its American. I do not wanna say it reminds me of American wheat/wit (Blue Moon, Pyramid, etc.) but there is a touch of that tart/funk that reminds me of them. Nicely carbonated. Not bad at all. Not a traditional trippel by any means, but a decent take on the style.

From clearance bottle. Surprisingly thick with thin lasting head. I definitely enjoy this more than other Belgian style beers I have had.

Bottle. Hazy bright golden color, small white head. Aroma of Bananas Foster and clove. Taste is similar. Interesting variation on the style.

This was my first triple and I enjoyed it a great deal. The beer is very complex and a pleasure to drink. I will definitely begin exploring triples going forward.
