henry3r (586), Wichita, Kansas, USA May 8, 2005 From the bottle, this beer poured a beautiful polished amber liquid. There was an off-white ample creamy head that lasted throughout due to a lively effervescence. This left a nice lacing on the edge of the glass. The nose was a complex mixture of malt sweetness with undercurrents of apple, citrus and grass. The mouthfeel was sharp and slightly dry. The initial flavor was a subtle balance of malt sweetness and clove. The middle was dry and the finish, slightly sweet with an alcohol warmth. BuckNaked (1204), Tempe, Arizona, USA May 8, 2005 Bottle courtesy of csbosox: (bottle conditioned) Mostly clear (due to my pour) golden yellow with amber highlights, and minimal white head. Aroma is faint citrus, light banana, apple, yeast, and malt (cereal, caramel). Medium bodied, smooth, medium spritzy carbonation. Taste is a banana coated malt up front, followed by clove/fruit-like yeast, caramel, lemon, spicy floral hops. Finishes watery with wood, light alcohol, and bread dough flavors. Pouring the yeast into the beer adds salty fruit notes, peppery alcohol, and more spicy floral notes. meathookjones (245), Sterling, Virginia, USA May 7, 2005 This poured out a hazy golden yellow with a slight white head rising above it. The head is gone quick without leaving much in the way of lacing. Scents of orange, coriander and other spices were present. There were notes of other fruits and of a bit of malt sweetness. The flavor was similar with spiciness, apples and doughy malt. A bit of lemon was present and the after taste was spicy and a tad bitter going down, very tasty. Mouth feel was medium and creamy and a bit heavier than most other triples I’ve had. Good drinkability I really enjoyed this one and would get it regularly. fuzzywasabeer (28), boise, Idaho, USA May 3, 2005 12oz bottle, gold with a 2" white head, aromas of malt-spice but faint, dry semi sweet and bubbly, light to medium body and pretty good balance, not bad at all. hezron (600), Viroqua, Wisconsin, USA Apr 30, 2005 Copper-orange in color, lightly cloudy, white head. Aroma of sweet malt with banana, apple and a spicy hint to it. Sweet flavor with a nice tartness to it. Fruity flavors with similar spice as the nose. Sweet but not cloying. Medium body with a dry feel to it. Thanks to Doppelganger for the bottle! DYCSoccer17 (2187), Davis, California, USA Apr 29, 2005 Updated: Jul 5, 2005Bottle. Aroma is very doughy with lots of bready notes. Slight sweet pepperiness. Pretty mild aroma, though. Mildly hazy dark golden color with a decent white head. Quite bitter and roasted to start with banana and clove notes in the middle. Finishes hoppy and slightly bitter. Alcohol is present. A little rough around the edges. ChazyRPh (571), Chazy, New York, USA Apr 29, 2005 bottle. slightly hazy golden pour with a nice fluffy white head. Spicy aroma, yeastly with a hint of banana. Nicely carbonated, spicy start. Hoppy, alcohol hits you right in the face. Earthy, dulling in the middle, the finish is spicy also. Something is not quite right. Average tripel, in my opinion. arjoseph (594), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 19, 2005 Bottle into tulip glass. 4/19/05. Deep golden and clear in the glass with visible carbonation. Large white head of dense foam. Lacing on the glass is spotty, racing not that impressive. Smell is of spicy hops, yeast, funk, uncooked corn. Smells fresh. Light palate with subtle malt sweetness makes this a refreshing drink, good for summer. Has copious amounts of the Saaz hops, as advertised, which add a spicy peppery and dry bitterness to the finish and really carry the beer in the absense of more dominant malt flavors. Extremely smooth and balanced, this is almost milky in the middle, with some banana smoothie flavors blended with the malty sweetness. Bitter finish is also a bit salty, which I enjoyed as a counterpoint to the initial sugar. Finish lingers and becomes somewhat metallic, and then oddly smokey, which I found enjoyable. This beer demonstrates that simplicity can be outstanding.
