Our Trippel Belgian Style Ale (pronounced triple) opens with a bold blast of hops that slowly gives way to the fruity esters implied by our Belgian yeast strain. The Three Graces hand-painted on the label are Zeusís daughters Aglaia (splendor), Euphrosyne (mirth) and Thalia (good cheer). In the Belgian tradition of brewing singles, doubles and triples, Trippel is the strongest with the longest fermentation. Remarkably smooth and complex, our bottle-conditioned Trippel is spiced with a trace of coriander.

12 oz bottle poured into a regular glass. A: Pours a darker straw color with a large amount of clarity, surprising for a tripel. Lots of tiny bits of yeast float in the body, though. The head is a one finger offwhite color with nice enough retention. A solid amount of lacing is left on the glass. S: Quite spicy - thereís a lot of clove, coriander, and black pepper on the nose, with the candied sugar only having a small aromatic role, and the malt backbone being almost entirely neutral. T: Sweet to start, before the spice character helps to neutralize the sweetness somewhat. Thereís a decent amount of coriander, black pepper, and cloves on the finish. A bit of a phenolic character also exists, one that thankfully doesnít overwhelm the palate with plasticky flavors. In addition it becomes almost savory after a while, once the biscuity NB yeast profile kicks in. Not my favorite beer in the world, but quite good, I must say. M: Fairly light, with a nicely neutral finish. Reasonably well carbonated - not too harsh or too mild. Somewhat dry in general. O: A good tripel. It gets bonus points for being so easy to find in my area, and for being quite drinkable. All in all, one of NBís better regulars.

* Abv 8.5. Balance of yeast, spice, malts. Well balanced with caramel malt. Earthy hops shining on the finish. Yes, a bit watery yet the hops add to a nice finish. Alcohol hidden. Typical American style triple yet satisfying. Enjoyable at the price and availability.

Pours a light hazy yellow with whit head. Has a strong citrus hop and yeast aroma. A sweet citrus taste with some pine but fairly watered down. A lingering dry hop and yeast aftertaste.

Growler. Thin foam and clear pale gold. Mildly yeasty nose, hints of pepper. A light yeast with subtle bitters and a clean finish. Hides the alcohol well but I canít help feel it could be better.

Can shared at home. Thanks Ron S from New Belgium/ WV. Clear gold. Orange peel, coriander, make up powder, a little peach in the nose. Bitter, a little yeasty, spicy. Full body, delicately fizzy, bitter, yeasty finish. Nice.

Tad dry for a tripel, decent bittering hops without a punch. Not a ton of Belgian-y yeast. Itís certainly fine, and Iím not angry at my six pack purchase, but Iím not going to go out of my way to get this again.

Bottle. Gold on color with a white head and lacing. Spicy Belgian yeast with candied fruit - appricott and berries. A liitle boozy.

Ripe fruit, possibly banana, toasted and dark malt. Brown red with plenty of foamy head. Moderate carbonation and mouthfeel. Overall I found this a good example if the style but too hoppy for my preference.

Refrigerated brown bomber poured into a snifter. Clear golden with no lacing, medium body, low carbonation, and very little lacing. Taste is fruity malt and some alcohol.

New Belgium Tripel 7.8% A beautiful bright clear gold with a foamy white head. The aroma is vineous, plum, figs, a bit tart but a very nice example of the style. Medium to full mouthfeel with a dry finish. The taste is crackery pale malts and big luscious candied fruits, figs, plums, raisins and while it has some boozy heat it is quite well balanced. I like it, itís a good example of a Belgian Style Trippel, but being in Japan we can get Belgian original versions for less. So if I was in the US Iíd go for this in a heartbeat but being in Japan I think Iíd get an belgian original instead. Really really nice though.
