3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz bottle poured into a regular glass.
A: Pours a darker straw color with a large amount of clarity, surprising for a tripel. Lots of tiny bits of yeast float in the body, though. The head is a one finger offwhite color with nice enough retention. A solid amount of lacing is left on the glass.
S: Quite spicy - there’s a lot of clove, coriander, and black pepper on the nose, with the candied sugar only having a small aromatic role, and the malt backbone being almost entirely neutral.
T: Sweet to start, before the spice character helps to neutralize the sweetness somewhat. There’s a decent amount of coriander, black pepper, and cloves on the finish. A bit of a phenolic character also exists, one that thankfully doesn’t overwhelm the palate with plasticky flavors. In addition it becomes almost savory after a while, once the biscuity NB yeast profile kicks in. Not my favorite beer in the world, but quite good, I must say.
M: Fairly light, with a nicely neutral finish. Reasonably well carbonated - not too harsh or too mild. Somewhat dry in general.
O: A good tripel. It gets bonus points for being so easy to find in my area, and for being quite drinkable. All in all, one of NB’s better regulars.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottled. Hazy goldeny orange colour with a mediumsized foamy head that leaves some lace. Aroma is fruit, some slight alcohol, mild grains, bread and some slight spices. Flavour is quite evidently coriander with some grains, mild sweet alcohol, some very fruity notes. Lacks a bit of the "spicy yeast" a good Belgo tripel usually has. On the right way, but misses some elements, which also makes it feel a bit thin and almost like a "half hearted" attempt.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Pours clear golden with a very small white head that dissipates very quickly. The aroma has a bit of banana, coriander, a bit yeasty, noticeably Belgian. The taste is full, sweet, fruity. Very subdued but very enjoyable.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
UPDATED: MAR 6, 2015 Bottle: Dense, cloudy, vibrant golden body. Opaque from the haze with a fluffy, chunky white head that plumes up quite large. Aroma of baked bread, spicy yeast, clove, coriander, lemon zest, orange peel, banana, pear skin, & a light touch of gumminess. Flavor has reasonable balance of bitter & sweet up front. Zesty hop bitterness zings in & counterpoints the sweet yeast esters & bready malts. More notes of clove gum, coriander, & white pepper come out in the back-end. Cotton-like finish, drying but with a kiss of dying fruits; banana & pear, mostly. Yeasty mouth coating. Semi-thick body. Not bad, though nothing really stands out, either. Decent.
