COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Trippel Belgian Style Ale (pronounced triple) opens with a bold blast of hops that slowly gives way to the fruity esters implied by our Belgian yeast strain. The Three Graces hand-painted on the label are Zeus’s daughters Aglaia (splendor), Euphrosyne (mirth) and Thalia (good cheer). In the Belgian tradition of brewing singles, doubles and triples, Trippel is the strongest with the longest fermentation. Remarkably smooth and complex, our bottle-conditioned Trippel is spiced with a trace of coriander.

Courtesy of sebletitje. Pours deep clear gold with off white head. The aroma is apple, pear, prunes and some candi sugar notes. The taste is bubbly apples, pears and apricots. It smooths out into the finish with persistent apple notes as well as pears and apricots. Pretty smooth. Nice brew.

In short: A citric and banana-heavy Tripel. Nice American take on the style.
How: From a 12oz bottle at Montreal Mondial de la Bière 2010
The look: Clear blonde body topped by a small white head
In long: Nose has the typical fruity esters that you’d expect from a basic trippel with no adjuncts. Taste is smooth, tropical fruits, fruit skin, fresh bananas, banana peels. Hops have a citric and dry grassy character. The finish is a little harsh but overall the beer is very easy to drink. The bananas are a bit too upfront and the carbonation is not as lively as in real Abbaye Trippels. Overall this is a solid effort for an American Trippel. But although this is a good beer, with all the far superior real Belgian Abbaye Trippels available everywhere this beer is as essential as a bowling bat.

Another great beer from New Belgium (thanks PhillyBeer2112!). The beers in actual Belgium can’t be much better than this can they? Poured a golden amber color with a thick head. Aroma alternated between fruity and hoppy. Cleverly balanced spicy flavor with hops, alcohol, and fruit with a nice citrus aftertaste. Good stuff.
