UPDATED: MAY 17, 2013 Woodshed 2.0. 750mL bottle share courtesy of dschiller. It pours with a deep copper body and thin gold edges and supporting a thin light tan head of foam. The aroma is full and bruising with lime and soft vinegar as well as some green apples and peach like fruitiness. Hmm. The taste is puckering and tart with vinegar and a light degree of acidity to midway. The fruitiness then joins in as cherry, green apple and apricot conjure up a futile attempt to be heard over the tart and acidic onslaught that is working its way toward the finish. This stays tart and acidic right to the end.

In short: A sour fruity/oaky red ale, original, complex, not too intense, easy to drink, excellent.
How: Bottle 750ml (#0619). Consumed when almost 2 year after the beer release. Bottle sent to me by futuraxz, thanks a lot William.
The look: Cloudy dark red body topped by a medium beige head that quickly recedes to a persistent layer of foam leaving some lacings on the glass.
In long: Nose is quite estery with red apples skin mixing in with cherries, oak. Taste starts a bit sweet with berries jam, a bit of hard-candy, then red apple skin, smooth lactic acid, some bubblegum, oak, light tannins presence, raspberries, cherries, funk, pleasantly yeasty, very nice expansive carbonation creating a a melt-in-your-mouth foamy cotton candy mouthfeel. Surprised to read here they used whiskey barrels, no whiskey flavor whatsoever to me. Really not too sour or acidic or tannic, this is relatively easy to drink for the style. Forget about Folie or Terroir or others, this doesn’t taste anything like New Glarus flagship sour ales. This is a very complex wild sour ale with a personality of its own. Drinking a 750ml was a pleasure. I never know when is the right time to open a rare bottle, then someone told me I should live each day as if it is my last, so I drank my bottle of Twisted Spoke and killed my boss, now what?

Brought to Woodshed 2.0 by dschiller! This tasting knocked an incredible amount of beers off of my "Wants List", this being one! Hazy crimson pour with a 1/4 inch white foam. Tart cherry skin, sour peach, lemongrass, and wet hay in the nose. Slight sweetness from the fruit on the back end with oak and acid making their way to the palate as well. Really well done.

Shared at the sour and wild ales tasting on April 14, 2012.
The beer is russet brown with hints of crimson and a white head. The aroma is fantastic, offering cherries, booze, oak, funk, sweet berries, tart fruits. The flavor is equally as complex. Bourbon emerges more in the flavor than in the aroma, gaining strength as the beer warms. A fine balance of tart and sweet, favoring tartness, as it should be. A myriad of tastes linger on the palate, concluding with a light acetic bite. Overall, I thought this was an awesome beer. I would relish the opportunity to try it again.

thanks to cory for this one. pour was a dark brown, hints of reddish cherry. some white head that i can barely remember, must have dissipated quickly. sour brown ale, ripe cherry, and some sweet malt. very flanders or oud bruin. bit more complex flavor. still had that sour brown dominating base but there was a legit presence of cherry and a distinct barrel aging characteristic. seeing that this was aged in apple whiskey barrels, it makes sense. never picked up the coriander though. pretty full body, tart, and dry. this was good, probably one of the best NB beers i have had.

Bottle sampled at Muckfest III. Clear toffee amber pour with a thick tan head. Funky and carmaelly nose with nice sourness. Malty flavor with citrusy sourness and oak with some cherry accents before a sour finish.
