COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named after New Haven’s nickname: the Elm City (but not to be confused with Elm City Connecticut Ale!) It is a true German Pilsner: crisp, refreshing, pronounced. Perfectly balanced pilsner malt made with all German ingredients and Hallertaur hops. It is a perfect compliment to a hot summer’s day! It’s definitely not your grandfather’s beer, but it’s what your grandfather’s beer was trying to be. A must have!!

pours a foamy white head and slightly hazy gold/yellow color. Aroma is grain, light (saaz?) hops. Taste is light malt, light (saaz?) hops. Light body, but not thin. Good carbonation.

Can courtesy of Adam of Somalia, thank you sir! Cloudy pale yellow fluffy white head, delicate lacing. Aroma of white pepper, hay, light dust. Taste is pretty clean and crisp, with a bit of biscuit, pepper, white bread. Not bad.

amber pour. white head hoppy, honey, crackers. Flavor is lightly bland, light hops, bread, yeast...pretty standard, but not bad.

Can... Clear yellow lager with a huge, frothy, white head. Great retention. Peppery, spicy, saaz hop-type aroma with lesser notes of toffee and honey. Medium-bodied with a lightly creamy mouthfeel with tingly carbonation. Bittersweet... a little more sweet than bitter. Short, crisp, mildly sweet finish.

12oz can acquired in trade with jjpm74 (thanks!). Poured a light to medium and see through golden color with an averaged sized white head. Aromas of grass (fresh mown wet grass), grain, and light honey. Tastes of grains, honey, and a little bready. Thinner body.

355mL can thanks to Travlr. Very fresh I think. Clear bright straw. Massive white foam. Huge retention and sheets of lacing. Nose is fresh lemon, fresh noble hops, honeydew, crackery wheat, fresh biscuit. Taste is clean, quenching, long grassy soapiness. Long bitter aftertaste with sourdough cracker. Hints of metallic twang are off putting. But well crafted.

My Bottom Line:
This unfiltered German-style Pilsener offers hay-like cereals over grassy hops, while a lemony edge accompanies the herbal, leafy finish.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam thins out over the hazy straw yellow.
-The pils malts are quite bulky; this could be crisper, methinks.
-That citrusy character is pleasant, but also atypical at times.
-The flavor profile is balanced throughout, but I admit I would have liked a more compelling finish.
-This is not a very memorable pils, but it is still quenching.

Can.

Sample from a can at the "Beer Tasting on the Front Porch". Thanks to JaBier for sharing as he got it in a trade for a bottle of water at DLD. The beer is a clear yellow-gold color with a thin fizzy white head that burns away quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Mild grassy hops in the nose. Light body with flavors of hops, bready malt and hay. The finish is lightly hoppy with a short grainy aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.

Pours a transparent deep golden with a thin fizzy white head. Doughy yeasty pale malty aroma has some earthy noble hop character. Starts with a lightly sweet pilsner maltiness turning more bitter and slightly floral toward the finish. A decent lager, but nothing special.

Can. Pours a hazy yellow amber with a medium white head that falls quickly. Sweet malt, with a slightly off putting aroma of spoiled… milk? Sweet lemony start with a medium body and some grain flavors. The burnt/foul taste comes back on the end, along with a light citrus note. Not sure if I got an off can, or if it’s some palate kill from the other things I’ve had tonight, but this was not something I really want to sample again.
