3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle, thanks to Matt and my fantasy football team (so LeíVeon Bell and Marshawn Lynch deserve a shout-out as well). Bottle 530/1400. Thick oily black pour, big dense creamy brown head. Aroma: first struck by garbage-y old hops (never liked that aroma -- it may be fine, but makes me think of garbage, and I donít like drinking garbage. Damn Iím getting cranky and rigidly opinionated -- I thought this hobby was supposed to open my mind, not just give me ammo to be a whiny little bitch about stuff I like/dislike based on whatís really just a completely subjective valuing of tastes and smells -- anyway, I digress). Oh WTF, why fight it -- yeah, thereís chocolate, rotten dark fruit, vanilla, some other barrel stuff, but really all I think when I smell this is "old and stinky." Full body, nice smooth texture; sweet taste, much better than nose. Overall: <shrug> if this was my local joint I would tick it and then not return to it, unless for some unknown reason it becomes heavily traded, in which case Iíd buy it to trade for other beers that are out of market but equally disappointing. Man, I shouldnít rate when Iím grumpy.

375ml bottle 12-2014 number 1366/1500. labeled bourbon barrel imperial stout. Not sure if this is the same, but the guy who sent it to me said it was. Very roasty, slightly European malty. Dark roast coffee, milk chocolate, licorice. Light on the bourbon, touch of barrel.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
2011 vintage. 500mL bottle, sent from Beerlistman (thanks a lot, Greg), pours black with a large tan / brown head. Aroma brings out dark fruits, heavy bourbon and lots of yeast. Flavour is complex, with notes of bourbon and vanilla upfront, and moderate caramel notes. Extremely highly carbonated Ė too much so. The flavours are great, but the carbonation is way too aggressive. Good beer nonetheless.

Black color with large brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, a bit yeasty, oak, alcohol, phenol. Medium body structure; some flavor of dark chocolate, roasted malt, leather, milder liquorice, light bourbon; medium sweetness.
Fairly oxidized, but still good.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pour is jet black with a very small amount of caramel head. Nose has lots of wood and some bourbon. Some sticky malts, slightly charred with notes of vanilla and chocolate. Taste is even more wood with bourbon notes and more charred malt. The underlying malt flavors are faded out by the barrel, little bits of chocolate and caramel malts, some sweetness towards the finish. Medium to full body with strong carbonation and a slick palate.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
375ml, 2013 vintage. Via trade extra. Pours a viscous black with a thin tan head. Heavy bourbon notes in the aroma, along with some round marshmallow, oak, coffee and roasted malt. Taste is very, very bourbon forward. Like, a shot of straight bourbon thrown into an imperial stout. This is the most bourbon focused bourbon barrel aged imperial stout Iíve ever tasted. Seriously boozy, but not hot. Alcohol is kept in check. So much marshmallow, vanilla, oak that it hides the base beer completely. Iím not going to say that this is a boozy mess, because it isnít. Itís just very bourbon focused, which apparently was the brewers intent. Any coffee, roast or hops take a back seat in this bus driven by Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey. Finish is straight bourbon, followed by more bourbon. And a touch of bourbon. Fucken awesome.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
375 ml bottle is 2013 vintage. Pours a nearly black and dark brown at the crest. The aroma is unusual, with wood barrels, alcohol, and tannins outweighing roasted malt. The flavor is atypical as well, with a dominant wood presence. Roasted malt and chocolate flavors play secondary roles to barrels, bourbon, and a somewhat sharp, tannic character. A great stout with peaty scotch-like notes.
