Black color with large brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, a bit yeasty, oak, alcohol, phenol. Medium body structure; some flavor of dark chocolate, roasted malt, leather, milder liquorice, light bourbon; medium sweetness.
Fairly oxidized, but still good.

Bottle shared at chriso’s Easter 2015 tasting - London. Vintage 2013. Picked up in a trade in the USA. Pours oily black-brown with a foamy, brown head. Good snout, some vanilla, baking cocoa, roast. Medium to big sweet flavor with oily chocolate, light earthy bitterness, raisins, vanilla. Full bodied with fine carbonation and creamy mouthfeel. Warming finish with lots of dark chocolate, baking cocoa, roasted malts, liquid vanilla, caramel. Very drinkable, smooth. I was quite impressed by this one - much better than expected. Wonderful.

Bottle split at Chriso Easter tasting thanks to Leighton #1075/1400, 04/04/15. Black topped with a decent tan swirl. Nose is chocolate, toffee, shades of emulsion paint, light bourbon trace. Taste comprises rich chocolate, big bourbon hit, molasses, toffee fudge. Medium + body, soft carbonation, oily feel, drying close peppered with bourbon strokes. Decent enough BBA impy.

A: After getting through way too much wax, the nearly black pour into a glass gives off far too much tan head, and it sticks around forever. We had to wait for about 10 minutes to be able to take a sip. Points off for the annoyance factor. S: Once the mountain of foam died down and I was able to sniff it, I picked up plenty of roast (not surprising given the nature of the base beer). A mild vanilla note, oak, and some alcohol. T: The roast is again the main flavor component here, with some definite alcohol flavor, maybe a bit of bourbon and rum, and some astringent oakiness. There is a lingering bitterness as well, from the high level of roast. M: The body on the beer itself is nice--medium in nature. The carbonation is surprisingly moderate, given the volume of head produced. D: This was a strange beer all around. Good, but not great, and the amount of foam still confuses me quite a bit. I would have liked more spirit character and a little less of the intense roast.

Bottle. Pours black. Coffee brown head. Nose of roast cocoa, chocolate malt, burnt coffee and vanilla. Boozy. Taste is very boozy - a bit of a mess, cocoa powder, dried coffee grounds, vanilla and lots of booze.

2011 vintage. 500mL bottle, sent from Beerlistman (thanks a lot, Greg), pours black with a large tan / brown head. Aroma brings out dark fruits, heavy bourbon and lots of yeast. Flavour is complex, with notes of bourbon and vanilla upfront, and moderate caramel notes. Extremely highly carbonated – too much so. The flavours are great, but the carbonation is way too aggressive. Good beer nonetheless.

500 ml bottle poured a clear dark reddish brown nearly black with a small lasting brown head. Aromas of bourbon, oak, dark chocolate, light roastiness and light dried fruit. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of bourbon, oak, dark chocolate, light roastiness and a hint of dried fruit with a smooth lingering chocolate bourbon finish.
