StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Jan 22, 2008 Opaque and midnight brown. A dark cocoa tinted head fizzles into an ink pool with nothing left on top. Soot, ash and unsweetened chocolate bricks seize the nose with a hint of smoke. Charcoal smeared on leather. Full mocha brownie flavor comes through with a hefty dose of cocoa grist. Chewy thick body with a sooty, woodsy burnt hazelnut ambition overcomes the tingly carbonation at the tip of the tongue. Fudgie flavors and chocolaty ribbons course throughout. Broiled caramel toffees and scorched dark chocolate milk fade into a wholesome, full bodied milk chocolate Symphony bar motif as it marches through to the finish. Thanks for the bottle, tpkenned!

TURDFERGUSON (1115), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA Aug 19, 2008 Bottle shared by JCB. Thanks Jason! Always wanted to try this one. It was very nice. Nose is chocolate, coffee, smoke, chicory. Flavor is chocolate, earth, smoke. A very nice combination of complex maltiness. One of the better imperial stouts I’ve had recently. emacgee (1010), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Aug 19, 2008 I was super stoked that Jason (JCB) was kind enough to share this one. Pours a dark dark black with a thin tan head. The nose is huge on coffee, roasty, sweet malts, bitter bakers chocolate, smooth espresso, a tad meaty. The flavor is nice and roasty, smokey, light coffee, chocolate, a nice hop presence. Smooth full mouthfeel. Finishes roasty with some espresso. A fantastic all around RIS, complete in every way. JCB (949), Durham, North Carolina, USA Aug 18, 2008 12oz from alldaydrinker - thanks, Jeff! Man, what a stout - and what a geektastic bottle! Oily pour and an absolutely massive nose: big ass chocolate malts, a smidge of coffee and chickory. It’s got a heavily lactic quality, thick and smooth all the way, but not at the expense of the hops. There’s also some serious smoke in there, especially in the finish. Hearty, oatmealy, yummy. Exceeds expectations.
