3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle courtesy of biggsbowler. Pours black with slight tan head that fades leaving uneven lacing. Aromas are roast, ash, chocolate and a hint of coffee. Flavors are roast, chocolate, coffee and some hoppy bitterness. Palate is just about perfect when this is cold, but you run into trouble as this warms it gets super heavy almost syrupy and very difficult to drink. Overall this is an above average stout but a disappointment one in the same. I expected more and was let down by this beers shortcomings.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
This was the third beer to hit my palate this evening after an extremely floral IPA and Bourbon Stout, so opinions will surely vary in comparison to my experience:
On tap at Eli Cannons, Middletown. Very strong coffee aroma, out of balance with the cacao, chocolate malt and vanilla on the nose.
This year’s brew has a lighter head than previous one’s, minimal carbonation, broken down quickly by the presence of coffee. Served in a 12oz snifter.
Most of all I was surprised that I didn’t get the slight burn from the alcohol followed by the plum characteristics that I’ve come to love and expect with this brew over the years.
I’ll be sure to try it again, first brew on the palate, as soon as possible.
