Brewed in a brewery not too far away and not too long ago... Imperial Stout Trooper is a full bodied stout with a majestic blend of seven different malts and Northern Brewer hops.

AZBennett (114) - Chandler, Arizona, USA - MAY 14, 2013
Bottle courtesy of biggsbowler. Pours black with slight tan head that fades leaving uneven lacing. Aromas are roast, ash, chocolate and a hint of coffee. Flavors are roast, chocolate, coffee and some hoppy bitterness. Palate is just about perfect when this is cold, but you run into trouble as this warms it gets super heavy almost syrupy and very difficult to drink. Overall this is an above average stout but a disappointment one in the same. I expected more and was let down by this beers shortcomings.

This was the third beer to hit my palate this evening after an extremely floral IPA and Bourbon Stout, so opinions will surely vary in comparison to my experience: On tap at Eli Cannons, Middletown. Very strong coffee aroma, out of balance with the cacao, chocolate malt and vanilla on the nose. This yearís brew has a lighter head than previous oneís, minimal carbonation, broken down quickly by the presence of coffee. Served in a 12oz snifter. Most of all I was surprised that I didnít get the slight burn from the alcohol followed by the plum characteristics that Iíve come to love and expect with this brew over the years. Iíll be sure to try it again, first brew on the palate, as soon as possible.

750 ml bottle to snifter (2011 vintage, shared by LitoIPA). Looks good; black with beige lacing. Smells of dark malt, dark chocolate, and roast. Tastes like it smells with a medium-bodied mouthfeel. Enjoyable.

An impossible beer to find, even in CT - props to all the ratebeerians out there for searching, trading, burglarizing, and whatever else it took to get those bottles. Anyway, IST has a great flavor if you like bitterness, with plenty of roasted malt and resin hop flavor. Assertive. It is really dominated by roasted malt, with bitter coffee and just a bit of chocolate malt. Pretty smooth. This was not crafted with balance in mind, but itís delicious, and the intense roasty bitterness is palatable because they had the foresight to keep the ABV under 9%. An epic beer, worthy of the hype.

Sample at First Sunday. Incredible aroma that is rich and chocolatey and roasty malt. Flavor comes through as much the same, smooth and rich chocolate again. Subtle and smooth. Very drinkable.

From bottle. Pours near black and opaque. Robust dark malt flavor but as sweet as many a milk stout. Lingering flavor of dark roasted malts with little burnt quality.

Bottle. Pours pitch black with a thin mocca head. Aromas of very sweet fruits, vanilla, fudge, sweet chocolate and coffee. Taste is not as Extreme sweet fruits but still has alot of it, more roasted malt and coffee. Bit thin body sadly.
