Brewed in a brewery not too far away and not too long ago... Imperial Stout Trooper is a full bodied stout with a majestic blend of seven different malts and Northern Brewer hops.

Poured from the bottle. Color is pitch black with a nice tan head. Aroma is dark chocolate and roasted malts. Mouthfeel is thin an creamy. Flavor is all chocolate, roasted malts, with just a hint of coffee. Very nice. Overall, would like it to be more full-bodied, but flavor and aroma is great.

At Rich’s Massive Cellar Emptying Tasting. 12/2013 deep black with a rusty tan he. Imperial Stout trooper New England is deep black with a rusty tan head. The nose is a meaty savory umami, pitted fruits & cacao. Licorice, bitter dark chocolate and some berry fruits in the finish. 2013 Past it’s best I think but still damn good.

Arom has got notes of milk chocolate, nuts and mild christmasy spices. Taste is quite mild for a beer with notes of coffee, milk chocolate and salmiak. Very soft texture.

This was the third beer to hit my palate this evening after an extremely floral IPA and Bourbon Stout, so opinions will surely vary in comparison to my experience: On tap at Eli Cannons, Middletown. Very strong coffee aroma, out of balance with the cacao, chocolate malt and vanilla on the nose. This year’s brew has a lighter head than previous one’s, minimal carbonation, broken down quickly by the presence of coffee. Served in a 12oz snifter. Most of all I was surprised that I didn’t get the slight burn from the alcohol followed by the plum characteristics that I’ve come to love and expect with this brew over the years. I’ll be sure to try it again, first brew on the palate, as soon as possible.
