LtJudge (353), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA Mar 2, 2008 Pours a thick black color with a nice dark tan head. Aromas of coffee, chocolate, roasted malts and alcohol.. Flavor is of smooth roasted malts that fade into a sweet chocolate and dark fruit flavor. Body is a medium texture( I thought it would be a little "chewier" ( a little chewbacca reference there....) due to the oil like pour. The alcohol is hidden very well in here.Great malty finish. Thanks Brewblackhole for sharing this one!
JB175 (1280), Holland, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 20, 2008 Bottle from jjpm74 (my first trade a year and a half ago!) - thanks! This one has a thick black pour with a medium, persistent tan head. Aroma is big and roasty with lots of chocolate, roast, coffee, and faded hops. Flavor has some dark chocolate, roast, coffee, and maybe even some wood in there. Thick and full mouthfeel. A really nice Impy stout that wins points for having one of the best labels ever. pepsican (645), the beer wastelands of, Iowa, USA May 10, 2008 Poured pitch black with a tan head. Aroma was up front chocolate with a bit of vanilla. Flavor had tons of chocolate, roasted malt, hops, and just the slightest bit of coffee. Finished just a tad thin, very drinkable. tytoanderso (1152), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA Apr 7, 2008 Bottle shared with the Chi-Town crew last weekend. Milk chocolate, molasses, mint and toasted vanilla on the nose. Fairly standard impy. Pours thick black with a thin brown head. Dark bitter chocolate initially on the tongue. Touch of soy and molasses. Slightly dirty malt profile. Vanilla. Mostly thick and creamy with an oddly watery finish. Thanks Matt! pantanap (694), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 5, 2008 bottle thanks to matt which was shared at the latest P tasting..... poured close to black with really no noticeable head at all...... aroma of roasty smoked malt, chocolate and a little soy.....flavors of sprite chocolate and roasty malt. carbonation is a little high for its own good. finish lends itself to a hoppy bitter finish. xmarcnolanx (577), Kirkwood, Missouri, USA Mar 21, 2008 Rich and plummy with red fruits and burnt toffee. Touches of alcohol and wood.
Coats well like a nice olive oil and is dark mahogany in color.
Coffee astringency. Watery toffee, burnt malt, touch of bitter rind that attaches to the mild wateriness and woodsiness.
Palate is slightly carbonated, but stings hoppy; sweet esters fill the back of the mouth.
As it warms up and flattens out the esters dominate and the slight carbonation stays present. A smooth hoppy finish that needs to last a touch longer....
