Courtesy of jcwattsrugger. Pours hazy copper with tan head. The aroma is a mix of spicy and earthy hops as well as spicy oak like notes followed by sweet malts and crystal malts. The taste is a bold combination of spicy hops, spicy cedar like wood notes, earthy hops and then sliding into citrus hops midway to the finish. Yummy brew.

UPDATED: NOV 17, 2010 500mL bottle, no date. Hazy medium orange with a small light beige head, fair retention. Lots of sweet caramel malt and brown sugar in the aroma with moderate vanilla and oak following. Got a fair amount of almond as it warmed, too. Flavor follows suit with some added alcohol--between that and the oak, it keeps the beer from being too sweet. Still got a fair amount of almond. Didn’t realize this was 10.5%. Finishes dry with some alcohol burn and bitterness at a 2-3, getting just a slight tinge of citrus (?). Light carbonation with a full body. I did enjoy this, but it was missing the peaty component I dig in some Scotch ales.

12 oz bottle. Pours a mostly clear, brownish copper color with some sediment and topped a small head of off white foam that quickly recedes and leaves some dripy lacing on the glass. The aroma shows a nice mix of sweet toffee, nuts, honey, oaky vanilla, and some floral hops to go with the booze from the alcohol. The flavor is loaded with rich caramel and toffee to go with plenty oaky vanilla and ghoney glazed nuts. The flavors really started to come out as the beer warms up. Nearly full on the palate and warm from the alcohol with a sweet and slightly sticky finish. This is a nice, different take on the style.

Bottle from a recent trade as an extra. Pours out amber/copper topped with a small head. Aroma was of vanilla, rich malts, and a little nut. Taste was wood, nut, caramel, and the vanilla still sticking around.

Bottle. Pours an opaque rust colored red with a 1 finger head that quickly recedes to form a nice collar around the glass. The first aroma I smell is booze followed by sweet malts and notes like caramel and butterscotch. I have to say once you get past the bourbon (?) notes it really is nice. Now for the first taste...warm and creamy with a nice butterscotch taste. Not as alcohol harsh as I thought it might be. Pretty smooth tasting. Slight oak flavor. Medium mouthfeel. Overall, I’d say this is a very tasty beer. A sipper for sure though!
