3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Moderate aromas all around, with cookie for the malt, herbs for the hops, meat for the yeast, with hints of smoke, wine, date, toffee and a faint note of vinegar. Head is small, frothy turning wispy with bigger bubbles, slightly off-white, with fair lacing and good legs and is mostly diminishing. Color is murky brown. Flavor starts lightly sweet and moderately acidic, then finishes lightly sweet and acidic and moderately to heavily bitter. Palate is on the fuller side of medium, oily with a lively carbonation. It finishes astringent and very dry. Itís just missing a few things I expect in a Scotch Ale, but itís complex and worth trying.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
500 ml bottle. Pours a mostly clear dark amber body with a one finger fizzy beige head that slowly faded. The nose is slightly sweet, lots of toasted malt, and a nice fruity ale yeast undertone. No alcohol apparent in the nose at all. The flavor is hugely malty with lots of brown sugar. It really reminds me of ísugar in the rawí packets. Some nice lightly peaty and toasted maltiness on the finish. The alcohol makes itself pretty well known in the flavor, but itís not overpowering or boozy though. Full bodied and slightly clingy with soft fizzy fine carbonation. Not bad, a little too sweet maybe, but pretty enjoyable.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12/27/10. 500mL bottle. Cloudy red pour with a light off-white head thatís gone fast. Huge caramel, vanilla, and more on the aroma... borderline BA aroma... Sweet malty flavor with chocolate, vanilla, and more. Again, this reminds me of BA, with some burn. Donít know much about this brew... Is it BA? Pretty nice!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Courtesy of jcwattsrugger. Pours hazy copper with tan head. The aroma is a mix of spicy and earthy hops as well as spicy oak like notes followed by sweet malts and crystal malts. The taste is a bold combination of spicy hops, spicy cedar like wood notes, earthy hops and then sliding into citrus hops midway to the finish. Yummy brew.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: NOV 17, 2010 500mL bottle, no date. Hazy medium orange with a small light beige head, fair retention. Lots of sweet caramel malt and brown sugar in the aroma with moderate vanilla and oak following. Got a fair amount of almond as it warmed, too. Flavor follows suit with some added alcohol--between that and the oak, it keeps the beer from being too sweet. Still got a fair amount of almond. Didnít realize this was 10.5%. Finishes dry with some alcohol burn and bitterness at a 2-3, getting just a slight tinge of citrus (?). Light carbonation with a full body. I did enjoy this, but it was missing the peaty component I dig in some Scotch ales.
