1/2 litre bottle. Pours a cloudy amber with a thin head. Aroma a competition between musty and sweet with strong toffee and whiskey. Flavor sweet and complex on the front end, strong alcohol, sticky resin, mellowing predictably to a soft aftertaste. Body medium with little carbonation. Overall, a really nice representation of the scotch ale type.

Slight orangy medicinal nose. Red brown copper colour.Haughty and flat. Some crystal malt in there which brings an overly polished smoothness. Not for me really.

Soft tea brown, nae head but tanningly laced. Spicey, oddly paprika meaty without being tellingly smoke. Ricey and oddly dry. Gritty cloying and underlying sweetness on the finish

Bottle on Christmas Eve after family went to bed. Pours muddy orange with sweet butterscotch nose. Tastes of lots of toffee, some molasses, dried fruits, bubblegum, and quite a bit of booze. Touch too sweet palate. Not getting any scotch ale type of character but pleasant enough

6/30/2011: New England Wet Willy Scotch Ale... Aroma: Sharp alcohol and prominent toffee malt. Appearance: Hazy orange color with a small beige crown. Flavor: Tons of maltiness, but not a lot of the expected caramelization coming through; plenty of nice alcohol venting, but becomes somewhat fusel at times; decent resin and citrus in the finish (maybe even slightly medicinal), but probably too much bitterness and hops for my Scotch Ale preference. Palate: Full-bodied; thick and sticky. Overall: I’m stoked that they did this the traditional way using "a single Scottish pale malt and naturally caramelized in the kettle with a three hour rolling boil." However, their interpretation of a Scotch Ale doesn’t fit with my preference of sweeter, maltier, and more caramelized to smoky rather than hoppy and bitter. That being said, this is a good beer as a Barley Wine (or similar), but not what I want for a Scotch Ale.

500 mL shared by Tmoney99. Thanks Tom! Rating #103 for this beer.

Bottle at my buddys ba tasting. Caramel with just a hint of orange citrus. Pretty boozy. Not sure why this is a scotch ale. Whatever, drinkable and enjoyable but nothing super special.
