Bottle from the brewery and shared at the 19th Richmond Ratebeer Gathering. Pours a hazy orange color with a thin creamy white head. Decent head retention. Toffee aroma with a good bit of smoke. The taste is toffee, caramel, smoke, bitter hops. Medium bodied, boozy. Very nice.

really enjoyed this one. aroma of butterscotch and raisins. minimal but visible lacing. mouthfeel is nice and thick and leaves sticky on the lips. really hides the 10% real well

Bottle on Christmas Eve after family went to bed. Pours muddy orange with sweet butterscotch nose. Tastes of lots of toffee, some molasses, dried fruits, bubblegum, and quite a bit of booze. Touch too sweet palate. Not getting any scotch ale type of character but pleasant enough

Bottle from UDBeernut, thanks! Pours ruby red with white head. Aroma is strong malt sweetness, no much hop presence. Taste is strong malt, almost sticky sweet. Pretty tasty,

6/30/2011: New England Wet Willy Scotch Ale... Aroma: Sharp alcohol and prominent toffee malt. Appearance: Hazy orange color with a small beige crown. Flavor: Tons of maltiness, but not a lot of the expected caramelization coming through; plenty of nice alcohol venting, but becomes somewhat fusel at times; decent resin and citrus in the finish (maybe even slightly medicinal), but probably too much bitterness and hops for my Scotch Ale preference. Palate: Full-bodied; thick and sticky. Overall: I’m stoked that they did this the traditional way using "a single Scottish pale malt and naturally caramelized in the kettle with a three hour rolling boil." However, their interpretation of a Scotch Ale doesn’t fit with my preference of sweeter, maltier, and more caramelized to smoky rather than hoppy and bitter. That being said, this is a good beer as a Barley Wine (or similar), but not what I want for a Scotch Ale.

Bottle at my buddys ba tasting. Caramel with just a hint of orange citrus. Pretty boozy. Not sure why this is a scotch ale. Whatever, drinkable and enjoyable but nothing super special.

A great beer...just a nice chewy beer with nice notes of whiskey and toffee...really well balanced for me...the alcohol flavor did not overwhelm at all and I was surprised to find out later its 10.50%. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

1/2 litre bottle. Pours a cloudy amber with a thin head. Aroma a competition between musty and sweet with strong toffee and whiskey. Flavor sweet and complex on the front end, strong alcohol, sticky resin, mellowing predictably to a soft aftertaste. Body medium with little carbonation. Overall, a really nice representation of the scotch ale type.

Bottle( thanks to Rian!): Cloudy, amber coloured, small persistent off-white head, sweet caramelly-vinous nose, vanilla and wood undereneath; sweet flavour, full bodied; alcohol-burn and wood in the the sweet fruity and caramelly finish. Srong and sweet, but still likeable…

Tap into sniffer. Hazy orange red. Sweet nose. High alcohol clout I never like in the mouth, hard to get by and hard to taste anything through. Sticky finish. Not my thing maybe if you like barley wine you’d appreciate this more than I do
