3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 alexsdad06 (3042) - Ohio, USA - JAN 1, 2013
Bottle from Cletus (consumed Jan 2011). Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a small off white head. The aroma has grapefruit and citrus that favors lemon/lime, sweeter caramel malts, a different woody character that can only be the influence of the tequila barrel and mild spicy notes. The flavor has a unique quality to it as well, no doubt from the tequila barrel; caramel malts, lemon/lime citrus, wood, white pepper, spice. Very interesting; my first beer from a tequila barrel.
3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Koelschtrinker (8480) - Köln (Cologne), GERMANY - SEP 1, 2011
8/12/13/12/9/12

Bottle thanks to Cletus! Hazy apricot colored pour, little carbonation, tons of floaties and an aroma of booze and bitter blood oranges. Flavor is some bitter hops, then mellow tequila, more bitter orange, apricot and finished with a boozy tequila margarita aftertaste. Extremely unique and enjoyable, really glad I got try this one. Trade big for this one if you need to.

In short: A sharp and citric IPA with a spicy woody dryness. Tasty, unusual and fun.
How: Tap at Extreme Beer Fest 2011, Night Of The Barrels
The look: Cloudy yellow body topped by a small white head
In long: Aroma has citric hops, notes of mangos and something kind-of-woody and “different” that surely came from the tequila barrel although I would have never guessed tequila barrel without reading the description. Taste is fruity (pears, mangos, lemon), citric lemony bitterness, spicy notes, dry woody finish. Medium body, medium carbonation. Strange, very tasty and actually surprisingly refreshing. I liked that strange beast. Kudos to New England Brewery for going through with this strange idea of putting an IPA in tequilla barrels, these guys have more balls than the Rockefeller Center christmas tree.

Bottle shared by someone at Oakquinox. Pours with a hazed golden body and a small white head. Aromas are a bit vegital, pepper, hops, earthy, tequila. Doesn’t meld very well, but the flavor is a bit worse. Earthy, spicy, oak, bitter, spice. Lively bubbles. Confused (at least I am).
2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 Thorpe429 (4844) - , Illinois, USA - APR 21, 2011
Bottle shared by AgentZero at the post-Christmas tasting in Chicago. Served in my Cantillon tulip.
I was really interested in trying this, especially as I really, really enjoy the standard Gandhi Bot. Unfortunately, it’s not quite what I hoped it would be. It pours a hazy light tan color without much of any head and a thin collar. The nose brings forward some wood and strong tequila. No hops really here. Don’t really know how the decision to use Gandhi Bot as the base really affected anything here. The flavor adds a slight hop presence, but tequila is still what rules here. Mouthfeel is pretty boozy,, but is actually a bit smooth. Drinks okay, but is not particularly good.

Bottle provided by Mike drank from Narke tulip...Medium straw, looks watery, whispy thin white head...The aroma is not appealing, lots of tequila, but in a weird medicinal finish, not very good at all...The taste thankfully loses most of the tequila except on the finish where the ends alcoholy tequila. More hop character throughout, slightly bitter.
Not my thing, but interesting, hope this isn’t a trend though.
