Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured cloudy amber color with an average frothy white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate to heavy complex hop, lemon and pepper aroma. Medium to full body with slick smooth texture and flat carbonation. Heavy bittersweet flavor with a heavy spice bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a standout brew.

8/12/13/12/9/12

A: The pour is a clear golden/yellow color with almost no head. On further inspection, this is pretty much flat. S: There is a rather intense fruitiness to the nose that seems to be of limes, lemons, and oranges. Sort of appropriate for tequila, I guess. There’s a bit of pepper, lots of oak, and even more tequila. T: Again, tons of tequila comes through on the flavor. There’s a fair amount of oak, too. Again, lots of citrus fruits like lemons and limes, and especially lemon peel. I get some grass notes in there as well. M: The body is medium with almost no carbonation whatsoever. D: I’m happy to say this was nowhere near as bad as I had feared, but I don’t think I’m really interested in trying it again. Not really a big fan of this treatment.

500 ml bottle poured a hazy golden amber with a lingering ring of amber foam. Aromas of tequila, oak, carmel, orange, pink grapefruit and light pine. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of tequila, oak, vanilla, biscuit, orange, pink grapefruit and light pine with a crisp dry lingering oaky tequila finish. Way better than I expected!

Bottle shared by someone at Oakquinox. Pours with a hazed golden body and a small white head. Aromas are a bit vegital, pepper, hops, earthy, tequila. Doesn’t meld very well, but the flavor is a bit worse. Earthy, spicy, oak, bitter, spice. Lively bubbles. Confused (at least I am).

Bottlen 326 of 713 thanks to Cletus; shared with Jcwattsrugger. Pours cloudy orange with white head. Nose is mild tequila, grapefruit rind and pine. Taste is malt, mild "no burn" tequila, lime and light pinewood.

Bottle #448. Pours a hazy amber with some sparse carbonation. Initially smells of melon, citrus, grapefuit before yielding to some sage elements. Tastes of dry malt, some tequila, melon, pepper, bitter, hay, some funky elements on the finish. Very different and enjoyable. I like Gandhi-bot slightly more, but this was a successful experiment.

Sampled from the tap at NotB. Poured a clear gold with a white head that lasted throughout the beer. Aroma had a note of tequila but was mainly pine hops with a grain/bread backbone. Flavor had an interesting combination of pine hops and tequila with a bit of bread backbone. Enjoyed the tequila barrel aging.

In short: A sharp and citric IPA with a spicy woody dryness. Tasty, unusual and fun.
How: Tap at Extreme Beer Fest 2011, Night Of The Barrels
The look: Cloudy yellow body topped by a small white head
In long: Aroma has citric hops, notes of mangos and something kind-of-woody and “different” that surely came from the tequila barrel although I would have never guessed tequila barrel without reading the description. Taste is fruity (pears, mangos, lemon), citric lemony bitterness, spicy notes, dry woody finish. Medium body, medium carbonation. Strange, very tasty and actually surprisingly refreshing. I liked that strange beast. Kudos to New England Brewery for going through with this strange idea of putting an IPA in tequilla barrels, these guys have more balls than the Rockefeller Center christmas tree.
