3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 pantanap (2728) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JAN 10, 2009
12oz bottle from woodmans, kenosha..... pours a medium orange brown with a moderate creamy white head.... aroma of grainy sweet malt, bread, and perhaps a little grass....flavors are on the sweeter end with grainy/bready malt with some added fruit qualities and a spicy somewhat bitter finish. nice mouthfeel but something seems a little off/chemical on the backend.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 JCB (2918) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - JAN 9, 2009
Bottle shared by emacgee - thanks, Ethan! Another wonderful beer to style from NG. Nice amber pour with a lustrous head, sweet toffee nose. This one’s got crisper personality and more hops than I’m used to getting from an alt. The body is nice and smooth, and it’s basically a very rich, complex rendition of the style.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 emacgee (2844) - Carrboro, North Carolina, USA - JAN 9, 2009
Thanks to TheCheeseMan for the extra! Pours a translucent amber with a frothy white head. The nose is sweet, caramel, lightly bready malt feel, earthy malt, some leafy hop character. The flavor is sweet malt, crisp mildly citrusy hop feel, buttered popcorn, very palatable. Crisp on the mouthfeel. Seemed to act more like an ale with the crispness and hop character. Tasty alt though.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 shigadeyo (2394) - Harrison, Ohio, USA - JAN 7, 2009
1/07/2009: New Glarus Alt pours an orange-copper color with a off-white to beige head. The toffee aroma is fairly sweet and toasty with a touch of astrigency (acetone) and Wintery spice or something. The flavor is malty (cherry-almond-like) and lightly spiced and hpped. It is medium-bodied and quite drinkable. Overall this is a good holiday Alt.
12 fl. oz. bottle () from Jason. Thanks, man. I appreciate it! Rating #46 for this beer.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 hellbilly (2857) - scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA - JAN 7, 2009
bottle from bockyhorsey...
pours a hazy copper orange with a fairly large soft off white head. lots of drippy and spotty lacing is left on the glass.
initial blast of floral alcohol on this one... bananas come to mind followed by rich caramel malt, piloncilla sugar, yeast and some grassiness.
no doubt that this is on the sweet side for my palate... loads of brown sugar, malt, earthy spice, over cooked caramelized d’anjou pears and some florals before alcohol comes in on the finish. something strange in there... reminds me of a chemical laden malt liquor (perhaps the abv%, idk). there also seems to be a faint tartness in the background trying to get out. a daunting task given the sugar content...
thick sticky body coats the palate with a gritty texture similar to banana starch.
i’m not digging this one. far too sweet for me and lacking a whole lot of character to mix it up. i’d be hard pressed to choke down a bottle. good thing i’ve got superdave70 here....

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 GeneralGao (3515) - Iowa City, Iowa, USA - JAN 7, 2009
Bottle. Poured a clear dark orange color with an off white head. Subdued aromas of hay, noble hops, and copper kettle. There was also the slightest whiff of brown sugar/toffee. Medium bodied and sweet. Tasted of caramel, hay, and light grass. Some mild bitterness emerged at the end. A bit too sweet for me at the time I rated it. I will revisit the rating after letting it condition in the bottle for a while.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 WisconsinBeer (659) - St. Paul, Minnesota, USA - JAN 5, 2009
Bottle. Clear amber color, minimal carbonation. Minimal head. Flavor is caramel malts and caramelized sugars, followed by dry earthy wood notes. Finishes with notes of dry vaguely metallic German hops. Banana bread notes give hints of some Belgian yeasts within. Warming alcohol notes on the back of the throat. Pretty interesting beer, definitely different.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Tripplebrew (714) - Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA - JAN 5, 2009
Pours a hazy copper gold with thin white head. Aroma is of candy sugar, malts and toffee. Flavor is a sweet banana clove with a nutty toffee after taste. Body is a medium creamy with quite a bit of lively carbonation. This is a beer that I quite enjoyed.
