Saluting our continued survival on this planet we decided to go all out with New Glarus Alt. This is a bold and racy toffee laced departure from the typical Dusseldorf style. Enjoy now or if you are the investment type lay it down. At twenty degrees Plato this might be more accurately termed a Triple Alt. The brilliant bronze body was cultivated in a three hour kettle boilof Caramel malts and Raw Turbinado Sugar. Aged on oak in open top fermenters followed by a second round of bottle conditioning. A firm head of foam sweeps brisk hop notes of Syrian Golding and German Hallertau to your nose. A defiant anomaly tenacious and independent this is a flavor experience to relish.

Coppery amber. Lightly hoppy aroma, hint of carmelly sugar. Very little bitterness. Medium light bodied. Rather mild like to me. I/m really not sure what this has to do with alt. Cleanish copper colored ale, but beyond that I/m not exactly sure.

Bottle poured a hazy orange amber with a small lingering amber head. Aromas of caramel, toasted malt, fruitiness and light earthiness. Palate was light bodied and crisp. Flavors of caramel, fruitiness and light toasted malt with a crisp lingering fruity finish.

"a little sweeter, and more flavor than just about any other alt iíve had. definitely skewed towards the malty side, but they nailed the malt profile, and the turbanado sugar is a great finishing touch. Another NG beer at or near the top of the style, where it belongs!"

Adding my rating based on notes: toffee, oak, and sweetness come through on the nose; toffee and caramel on the palate. Just a bit of floral hops on the finish.

Bottle: Fiery amber, thin to moderate off-white head, spotty lacing.   Sweet mealy nose, slight graininess, but its not earthy or soily.   Very hearty on the tongue, malty, bready without being too organic.   I am a bit surprised with this one, its bigger than most other Alts.   Imperial Alt by chance?   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   Slightly woody on the backside, sweet, a bit of caramel.   Very untraditional, but very welcomed.   I really liked this one.   I could drink this all day, and I aint an Alt fan.   Well done New Glarus, sweet malty, and outside the norm for the style.   Me like!

Acquired in a trade. I donít see any bottled on details. Poured into a harpoon 100 Series Snifter. The bottle was in my fridge all day so itís around 40 F at pour. A - Poured a half finger tight head that was crystal clear. The beer itself looks like a dark apple cider. S - I can smell apples just on the pour! Diving nose first into the glass was too much. Granny Smith Apples, sugar, sour candies and some malt hints. Itís HUGE smell. If you donít like apples, avoid it cause the smell is all apple. T - The taste is actually less harsh than I expected. The apple is still there but the sour aspects turn almost rotten after drinking. Lots of apple then old dirt / dusty taste after swallowing. Thereís some syrup aspects to it like maple syrup. Itís a very sweet beer. M - Very good carbonation and super light bodied beer. You donít have to sip but youíd probably want to because the fruitiness is pleasant. O - No idea how old this is. Smell is wonderful and taste is great until aftertaste sets in. Iíd love to have this on tap and fresh.

This one was surpisingly good considering the age of it. A deep amber pour with a nice sized light tan head. Nice fruity and earthy hop aroma with a touch of malt. The taste is pretty much the same with some caramel and a touch of sweetness. Really a nice balanced beer.

Bottle thanks to motortoddhead. Copper in color with tan head. Nice wood notes with caramel malts and a tinge of fruit in the background, hops nearly completely gone. Caramel malts, tart and dried fruit, oak with toasted malt and a hint of alchohol. Mild to moderate earthy hops. Light, somewhat fruity /sweet finish. Lingering toasty malt and wood. This has appeared to age well. Really digging this one and would love to have them bring it back

Pours slightly off amber with generous malt notes that show a lighter mouthfeel. In between the malt you can get nuanced hints of hops. Decent beer for the style.

Shared 12 oz. bottle at a group tasting. Poured a clear, light mahogany color, with a modest, off white/light tan head that diminished gradually to a foamy ring and film, and left some fair spots & streaks of lacing. The aroma was light grain, soft caramel malt, and a touch of earthy hop. The flavor added to these, light caramelly sweetness, and low but noticeable bitterness. The finish had a pleasant, subtle dryness to it.

Tasted on 3/27/11 from a 12oz bottle, I was told that this bottle has been aging for around two years. Pours hazy bright, light amber with a thick white head that slowly recedes to a thick collar of lace. The nose is caramel malt with a bit of brown sugar, nuts, and light bitterness. The flavor is malty with brown sugar, caramel, maple, and some light bitterness. The body is medium with lively carbonation and a long caramel and nutty finish.
