COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Saluting our continued survival on this planet we decided to go all out with New Glarus Alt. This is a bold and racy toffee laced departure from the typical Dusseldorf style. Enjoy now or if you are the investment type lay it down. At twenty degrees Plato this might be more accurately termed a Triple Alt. The brilliant bronze body was cultivated in a three hour kettle boilof Caramel malts and Raw Turbinado Sugar. Aged on oak in open top fermenters followed by a second round of bottle conditioning. A firm head of foam sweeps brisk hop notes of Syrian Golding and German Hallertau to your nose. A defiant anomaly tenacious and independent this is a flavor experience to relish.

Huzzah, another deleted rating, along with my Apple Ale--where the f do these ratings go? Dammit. Clear orange caramel with a mostly lasting one finger beige head. Mildly sweet caramel with some almond sugar cookie malts up front with some light toasted malts and nobles in the background, as well as some spicy alcohol that lets you know the (unknown) strength of this beer. Flavor is much the same and the spicy alcohol was I think due in part to some noble hop spiciness as well. Bitterness peaked around a 3 in the lightly alcoholic semi-dry finish. Medium full body with moderate carbonation. I really enjoy this beer and kinda wish I had even more of it! Thanks to Colin for my original two bottles. I love this beer.

Acquired in a trade. I don’t see any bottled on details. Poured into a harpoon 100 Series Snifter. The bottle was in my fridge all day so it’s around 40 F at pour. A - Poured a half finger tight head that was crystal clear. The beer itself looks like a dark apple cider. S - I can smell apples just on the pour! Diving nose first into the glass was too much. Granny Smith Apples, sugar, sour candies and some malt hints. It’s HUGE smell. If you don’t like apples, avoid it cause the smell is all apple. T - The taste is actually less harsh than I expected. The apple is still there but the sour aspects turn almost rotten after drinking. Lots of apple then old dirt / dusty taste after swallowing. There’s some syrup aspects to it like maple syrup. It’s a very sweet beer. M - Very good carbonation and super light bodied beer. You don’t have to sip but you’d probably want to because the fruitiness is pleasant. O - No idea how old this is. Smell is wonderful and taste is great until aftertaste sets in. I’d love to have this on tap and fresh.

Tasted 12/30/08. 12oz bottle. An unactivated pour leaves a trace layer of gunk on the bottom of the bottle. Slightly hazy with an amber golden hue. Moldy off-white head. Aromas of dark rustic breads and caramel. Mild spice undertone. Medium bodied with a surprisingly big, bold palate. Big malty character. Good blast of bitterness, either from the yeast or the hops. Sweet citrus hops in the finish. Touch fruity, nutty and slightly sour. Warms splendidly. Tight tart tingle. Mildly lingering finish. Wow! This is terrific!

12oz bottle. A Dusseldorf style Alt this is not. Cloudy brown-amber color, nice minimal head. Sweet, mellow aroma. The taste is reminiscent of Tripel in its doughy sweetness, but there is significantly more caramel malt. Deep and rich, doughy and drinkable. I’d think this beer was at least 8%. Great stuff.

Pours a lightish amber with a good sized head. Aroma of caramel, bread, sugar, and spice. Nice sweetness, very drinkable. Notice the alcohol a bit.

This is nice. A woody aroma. This is fairly smoky. No real old flavor, but some smoke smoke and a nice finish to this.
