adrian910ss (1395), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 9, 2007 Updated: Apr 14, 2007750 ml bottle. Pours a tomato juice cinnamon red color with a medium bubbly white head. Beautiful aroma of cherries; cherry pie filling, cherry cobler and cherry tart. The best fruity aroma of any beer Ive ever had to date-Perfect. Taste is loaded with the right blend of sweet and sour cherries with a touch of cinnamon. Im not the biggest fan of fruit beers, but this one is AMAZING in every aspect. A cherry experience not to be forgotten !! drewbeerme (2224), Chicago, Illinois, USA Feb 9, 2007 750ml, pours beautiful deep red with little head that doesn’t last. nose if bursting with cinnamon and cherries. flavor starts with really sweet cherries and cinnamon but finishes with loads of sour cherries. after awhile i start tasting some cherry cough syrup quality to it, perhaps sweet cherries and alcohol but it’s still an amazing beer that packs more fruit flavor than anything i’ve had before. mouthfeel is full and carbination is a tad fizzy. it’s either the sweetness or maybe some acidity but i can never drink that much of this stuff. a truly amazing and unique beer but it’s never been my thing and i rarely think about it. 11thMan (20), Dennison, Minnesota, USA Feb 6, 2007 The best fruit beer in the world. Very nice cherry taste. It does not taste phoney like a lot of fruit beers. It also has the hint of oak. Pours a bit cloudy, but very nice. It would be nice if the alcohol was a bit stronger then 5.1% but when it tastes this good it is hard to find any faults! GaltScat (195), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Feb 5, 2007 25 ounce bottle. Opaque red with a low pinkish tan head. Aroma of dark cherries, malt, mildly of hops, and cherry wood. The flavor was similar and strong, very strong. Sweet and tart with dark cherries, hops, yeast, and malt. The malt (and maybe yeast) nicely mellow or smooth out the flavors. Texture is smooth and crisp. The finish is sweet with some tartness and bitterness. Overall there is significant sweetness and tartness in this fruit beer; but after all, it IS a fruit beer. Belgian Red was unique and enjoyable to drink. If the alcohol content was slightly higher, I would have rated a little higher as well (solely a personal preference). SDbruboy (1832), San Diego, California, USA Jan 30, 2007 750 bottle from RatedX (about 3 years ago!) - thanks Joe. I’ve been saving this for a while waiting for just the right occasion to pop this puppy open and enjoy it. Well, finally tonight I found a worthy event to commemorate and brought this out of my cellar - woohoo! As I poured this garnet colored brew into a champagne flute, I was struck by it’s clarity, plentiful bubble streams and fine pinkish head. I was also struck by the aroma of pie cherries. Sticking my nose into the glass, the tart cherry smell increased exponentially and dominated my olfactory sensors, but in the background I could also detect light hoppy and woody notes as well. The flavor is again almost overpowering with sweet and tart cherry, but it’s softened a bit by a rich wheat and barley malt character, and made more complex with hints of yeastiness, mellow wood and earthy notes. Body is light to medium with a generous amount of carbonation, not quite champagney in character, but still nicely assertive on the tongue. Overall a delicious treat of a beer! Erdinger2003 (127), Ames, Iowa, USA Jan 28, 2007 This pours out a cloudy red that looks just wonderful. The smell is slightly tart, reminds me of cherry cobbler. The taste is a great sour cherry flavor that sadly leaves the more you drink. The palate was smooth, not heavily carbonated. Overall it was great, I have had 7 or 8 bottles now. detroiter (958), Euphoria, Minnesota, USA Jan 21, 2007 Pours a very hazy red with a bit of orange color in there too. Very light pink head that rapidly disappears. Fizzy carbonation lends a maraschino cherry aroma. No malt, no hops. No ’beer’ in the aroma.
Cherry very prominent in the taste, though more pie cherry than maraschino at this point. Slightly sour tanginess at the end. Still no malt, hops, or beerines to it. But don’t think ’wine’ or ’wine cooler’ at all.
Others may have compared this to some Belgian classics. Perhaps. But I don’t detect anything close to Lindemann’s or Liefmann’s or Cantillon or Hansenns. jj21 (84), Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, USA Jan 19, 2007 750ml bottle
Pours like Champagne into flute. Murky red liquid topped by a quickly disappearing thick rose head. No lacing. Cherry aroma (duh) not too overpowering. Glad to see this. So often the aroma in fruit beers is too much. Taste was fruity with yeasty finish. Moves between sweet and sour while on the tongue. Cherry Pie in a bottle.
