We invite you to discover this newest beer style Black IPA. Political debate rages over the origins of this jet black beer as both coasts feel they deserve credit. Our Black Top is a pleasant road connecting Villages and Communities statewide on a ride of Black IPA discovery. Expect this beer to pour a hop forward jet black glass brimming with aromatic bitterness. Brewmaster Dan skillfully weaves molasses and chocolate malt undertones with a soaring rush of clean citrus and pine hop notes, to deliver a drinkable Black IPA. Savor Black Top, like Wisconsin’s miles of licorice ribbons of ink that meander through armies of corn and bovine mowed fields. Enjoy the journey on a road less traveled.

Dark brown pour with a medium beige head. aroma is nice roasted malt, chocolate, citrus. Very light and a bit thin on the palate in the front. Wanting a bit more depth of roasty flavour here. LIght roasted malt flavour with a thin herbal hop presence. Dissappointing from NG.

Poured from a refrigerated bottle received from weihenheizen. Thank you! Pours a darker amber to brown color with a large, everlasting head of beige foam. The aroma is very malty and sweet with just a touch of piny hop presence. Taste is mostly sweet with some bitterness coming through mid finish.

Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle poured into a shaker. Pours tranlucent dark brown with small off-white head. Good thin small bubble lacing, medium body, smooth texture, and pine aroma. Taste is pine, some roasted malt, and some herbal hops. Not bad, just not my thing.

Interesting stuff, malty aroma along with the hops, more malty than I expected. Some bitterness but slightly easy. Obvious hops but also some burn and malt. Balanced but was expecting a bit more

UPDATED: SEP 13, 2012 Bottle from pack rat vinny. Cheers! Aroma citrus/dark fruit. Black/ brown body. Molases provides great mouth feel and sweetness. Citrus upfront then pine which echoes then subdued by malt/chocolate finish. A very inspiring ale indeed.

Bottle from Darknole, thanks. A black/brown colored beer, with a beige head. The aroma of dark fruits, bitter hops and spices. The taste of dark sweet fruit, bitter hops and notes of spices. The aftertaste is sweet with bitter.

12 oz. bottle as a local trade bonus. Pours an initially hazy cola brown that clears up, with a small tan head. Aroma of citrusy, earthy hops, toasty, roasty, and chocolate malts, pine, and herbs. The flavor follows the same tack, with chocolate, roast, earth, pine resin, citrus, and earth. A little metallic note, too. Light-medium bodied, with a fruity mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Nice BIPA.

This might be the best-smelling beer I’ve ever had. The nose is crazy strong with fruit and citrus and pine. Flavor is similar but muddled. Make sure you’ve taken a few good whiffs of it before finishing it off because the aroma is something to behold.

This is my sixth bottle of this beer and I have love every one. Beer pours dark brown color with a retained tan colored head. Aroma is very pleasent with chocolate and fresh pine also some toast. Taste is a beautiful amalgem of sweet and bitter, somewhat like dark chocolate. Another awesome New Glarus brew. Amazing!!!

Pours from the bottle a sable red/black with a medium cream head clinging all over the glass - wonderful appearance. Has a bright spruce aroma. Taste is spruce, coffee and a mild background flavor of whiskey. The aftertaste is very dry and lingering. This is one of my favorite easy-to-drink, local beers of the moment.
