COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We invite you to discover this newest beer style Black IPA. Political debate rages over the origins of this jet black beer as both coasts feel they deserve credit. Our Black Top is a pleasant road connecting Villages and Communities statewide on a ride of Black IPA discovery. Expect this beer to pour a hop forward jet black glass brimming with aromatic bitterness. Brewmaster Dan skillfully weaves molasses and chocolate malt undertones with a soaring rush of clean citrus and pine hop notes, to deliver a drinkable Black IPA. Savor Black Top, like Wisconsinís miles of licorice ribbons of ink that meander through armies of corn and bovine mowed fields. Enjoy the journey on a road less traveled.

A nice run of the mill black IPA. Nothing special here, though better than a lot that Iíve had. Aroma was decent. Hints of chocolate malt and coffee with a decent hop aroma, though smells a little stale. Pour was a nice deep dark brown with a one finger near tan head. Taste was very grassy and earthy. The pine and citrus hops play with dark bitter roasted malt The bitter flavors of the two donít really get along, but battle for dominance (as most in the style IMO). Nice carbonation. Decent beer

12oz bottle: pours a barely transparent blackish mahogany with a spotty-lacing beige head. Has a lightly sweet dark caramel malty nose with some fresh resiny piny hops. Starts with good fullness and dark malty sweetness with lots of fresh resinous hop flavor and clean bitterness finishing slightly drier and bittersweet. True to style and enjoyable.

Pours black with a thick frothy head. Nose is hoppy. Fairly creamy on the palate, the taste is predominately hops with dark roasted malt providing the backbone. Fairly dry finish. A real treat for hopheads and an enjoyable beer for all others. Try it with pastrami and rye.

Pours a blackish burgundy with a light tan sticky head. Aroma is very inviting, almost sweet smelling hoppy aroma with almost no scent of bitterness. A very nicely balanced taste, the maltiness is perfectly in line with the brightness of the hops. It ends just a little toasty. Rated highly because of how surprised I was by it.

Pours deep dark brown/red (black) with a sizable rocky, tight-bubbled khaki head that leaves lots of clingy, soapy lace. Nose is nice and complex: lots of dank pine, deep grapefruit and orange, some chocolate, some sweet caramel, molasses, just a great combo of sweeter malt and big juicy, sticky hops. The taste is nice and bitter, but very well balanced by the sweetness. Palate is medium bodied, tingly, with a very long bitter hop finish. A seriously stellar black IPA, about as clean (non-roasty or stouty) as Iíve had, prefect strength, just really enjoyable.

Thanks to Terminus for picking this fine black IPA up for me. Pours dark brown with a crimson hue and a good sized tan head. The aroma has tropical hops, funk, spice, citrus, lightly toasted malt and modest sweetness. It has a medium body that is lush and smooth with minor semi-soft carbonation. The flavor begins with smooth toasty malt, light chocolate, hoppiness of spice, tropical fruits, grapefruit and pine. The finish is on the dry side and a bit earthy. Nice beer. If I was blindfolded I think I would have thought this was a normal IPA and not a black IPA.

Bottle, 06/25/2012. Nice deep brown pour, maroon highlights, fine lacing. Hoppy grapefruit aroma cut with pine and resin, underneath is roasted malts and chocolate, molasses. In the taste, piney hops, tongue tingling, burnt roast bitterness. Light medium body, high carbonation. Tasty for sure, my taste buds are still tingling.

Awesome pine hop scent with a hint of fruit. Taste is a really blend of malt and hops, has a nice bitter chocolate taste. A very nice black IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

bottle purchased at Woodmans madison, wi june 5th-pours deep brown with a lite tan head that was fizzy around the rim of the glass. nose is bitter hops (pine, grapefruit, lite leafy notes), chocolate, roast, lite menthol aspect-flavors are big chocolate, pine, lite resin yet not overly bitter-somwehat sweet. may have a bit of age on it however, its not fallen too far from fresh. needs more hop presence to be a true contender in this style. however, its a very well made beer with a clean ferment. would like to try this fresh on tap when it comes out again.
