We invite you to discover this newest beer style Black IPA. Political debate rages over the origins of this jet black beer as both coasts feel they deserve credit. Our Black Top is a pleasant road connecting Villages and Communities statewide on a ride of Black IPA discovery. Expect this beer to pour a hop forward jet black glass brimming with aromatic bitterness. Brewmaster Dan skillfully weaves molasses and chocolate malt undertones with a soaring rush of clean citrus and pine hop notes, to deliver a drinkable Black IPA. Savor Black Top, like Wisconsin’s miles of licorice ribbons of ink that meander through armies of corn and bovine mowed fields. Enjoy the journey on a road less traveled.

Pours a dark brown with a medium sized, light tan head that doesn’t last all that long. The aroma gives you a strong citrus impression, with lots of grapefruit and pine. It has a malty balance of chocolate, some licorice, and light coffee as well. The taste has a heavy hoppy bitterness to it. Lots of pine, with milder grapefruit and chocolate. I still get hints of licorice. Aftertaste is short, with pine and some coffee. Medium bodied, lots of lively carbonation, with a very hoppy texture. I enjoyed this. Its a very good representative of this style.

[Bottle] Pours a very dark shade of brown with a rocky brown head. Nose is more malt based than expected. The taste is of piney hops, chocolate malts and grains. Moderately bitter. A lighter black IPA, but much more sesionable as well. Tasting notes from 2012.

12oz bottle in a tulip. Pours dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of lightly roasted malts, light chocolate, and a decent amount of floral hops. Flavor the same, all sort of light. Average texture. Decent but not the best of its style.

LSU Game Day Tasting. Notes are pretty sparse on this brew. The roasted malts doesn’t over power the natural hoppiness of the and IPA. One of the best Black IPA’s I I’ve ever had. Bottle - Tasted at Sharing

Very enjoyable black ipa. Aroma and taste convey fresh pine and hay. There is also some flavor of coffee and cocoa.

Bottle is on old side, 5 months. Pours black with finger of head. Nose is little hoppy, little roasty. Taste is roast, hops, mild bitterness, pretty watery. Eh. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours very black with a slight fruity pebble aroma. A lot of dark fruits and hops. Pretty good for the given style.

Bottle shared thanks to Dmac. Pours out a moderate brownish color with a small off white head. Aroma is of some light chocolate, burnt toast, citrus hops and some light licorice. Taste is complex, nice smooth mouthfeel, citrusy/pine hop resin notes, chocolate, toast, mild caramel sweetness, then some more bitterness in the finish. Rather solid.

12 oz bottle and served in a nonic pint glass; Pours a mahogany brown hue with frothy fading head and very good lace. The aroma has notes of citrus, pine, roast, anise, char,, pipe tobacco and bread. The taste is mostly ashy roast with a fair amount of fruity hops and faint diacetyl. The mouth feel is tannic and tea-baggy, very dry and honestly not has refreshing as i would like. Color me disappointed for I had high hopes for this beer since NG does such a nice job with most styles but this one is just to mundane and flawed to make me ever want another, alas I have another bottle from the "winner box" to drink.
