COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We invite you to discover this newest beer style Black IPA. Political debate rages over the origins of this jet black beer as both coasts feel they deserve credit. Our Black Top is a pleasant road connecting Villages and Communities statewide on a ride of Black IPA discovery. Expect this beer to pour a hop forward jet black glass brimming with aromatic bitterness. Brewmaster Dan skillfully weaves molasses and chocolate malt undertones with a soaring rush of clean citrus and pine hop notes, to deliver a drinkable Black IPA. Savor Black Top, like Wisconsin’s miles of licorice ribbons of ink that meander through armies of corn and bovine mowed fields. Enjoy the journey on a road less traveled.

Draft at New Glarus. Tamarind color, offwhite head. Aroma is very piney, and also shows a healthy dose of molasses. Taste: molasses, chocolate, pine, big bitterness throughout. Thick, creamy body, average carbonation, long bitter finish.

Kind of a mix of a porter and IPA. I thought it was very good and enjoyable. Nice hop bitterness mixed with some chocolate, vanilla and coffee notes.

Black, clear with red-plum hue. Light head receding quick to a ring and light lace. Very aromatic with nice fresh tropical fruits. Very smooth with medium body, lots of good hop refined mellow presence.Kind of a citrus/pine bitter. Nose and mouthfull of hops. Subtle roast with mild smooth chocolate. Malts come across more of a dark caramel. Tasting this blind you may not know its black although it does have a roasty edge maybe coffee possibly. Its so smooth and hoppy that you dont notice the roast much at all.

Cheers to a nod to sanity and balance. The cirtusy and grassy nose hint at a hop dominated beer, as an IPA ought to be of course, but taking a sip, the balance really shines through. The most notable quality is the dance between resinous hop notes, and dark caramel and chocolate malts on the finish. This is bitter and sweet, refreshing and satiating all at the same time. Exactly what I was looking for on an unusually chilly summer afternoon in central VA

Unexpectedly hoppy. I thought this was going to have a more dark note to it, but much like New Glarus beer, it was light, citrusy and hoppy. Straight up pine in the nose and a generally medium finish. Light color and lots of perfume, floral nose.

Bottle. Caramel malt and pine/orange peel aroma. Dark chestnut with large tan head. Sweet molasses/chocolate malt and moderately bitter pine flavor. Very tasty.

Bottle from Woodman’s Onalaska. Pours black with a thin khaki head. Leaves a lot of lacing in the glass. Some general hoppiness on the nose. I get a bit of roast on the tongue with a gentle hop flavor. Finishes fairly clean. Not my favorite style but it’s very drinkable.
