troyc (1160), Lubbock, Texas, USA Nov 5, 2009 [Bottle] Pours a cloudy dark brown color with a perfect tan head. Aroma of cinnamon, clove and dark malts. Taste includes some cocoa, yeast, nutmeg, sweet caramel and wheat malts. Crisp and dry finish. Fantastic body and average carbonation. Another great weizen from New Glarus, although I prefer the lighter versions. bhensonb (4180), Woodland, California, USA Nov 3, 2009 Bottle from allendodd. Thanks man! Pours a very dark ruby with a large tan head. Aromas of clove and dark roast grain. Medium body with mildly frothy carbonation. Flavor is burnt malt, chocolate, and clove, or perhaps cinnamon. Subtle. Maybe a touch of coffee with time. Finishes towards dry and chocolate. Quite different and quite tasty. lithy (1600), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Oct 27, 2009 Septemberfest. Sample from a bottle shared by me. Dark brown, red hints. Light tan head. Aroma is wheat, clove, light citrus. Taste is wheat, light clove. jrallen34 (123), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 26, 2009 I drank this from a bottle into a chalice.
This beer pours a dark black with a light tan creamy head. The head is about 2 inches and has some decent retention lasting about 3 minutes then forms a soapy head. There is some watery lacing, but nothing special.
The aroma of the beer is a little to light but what you can get is some roasted chocolate, spices, and maybe some caramel.
The taste is great it starts off with some chocolate, has a nice warm body and sticks to your tongue. As you finish there is a distint hint of wheat and a nice lasting flavor. This beer is great, but lacks a little on drinkability. danielcurtis81 (868), San Diego, California, USA Oct 23, 2009 Served from a 12oz bottle given to my by my new brother-in-law. The appearance is a cola brown with a dense and full cream head. The aromas are full of wheat with notes of burnt corn, tree bark, and chocolate. The flavors are mild wheat with a coco powder or bakers chocolate tone, whole light roast coffee bean. Mouth is medium bodied and creamy. Real nice brew! arkurzynski (89), West Bend, Wisconsin, USA Oct 21, 2009 Pours brown/black with thin tan head. Surprisingly wheat only aroma with very little roasted/spicy/rye aroma. Sweet wheat flavor with the mouthfeel of heavier malts. Spicy, smokey and deep. Good complexity. Gives a warth that resides. A very good beer, but not a staple for me. chicagodri (1021), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 17, 2009 Beer from a co worker. Pours dark brown/black with tan head. Aroma of wheat and caramel. Actually fairly sweet and some caramel in the flavor. Great spices as well. Interesting beer. Sell in Illinois again! Beardface (977), Eugene, Oregon, USA Oct 15, 2009 12 oz bottle acquired via trade. Poured a dark as sin black with gigantic, foamy tan head. Aroma of wheat, caramel, roast, clove. Flavor was roast, caramel, wheat, light smoke and some chocolate. Quite chewy and thick for the style and a very enjoyable brew. Really enjoyed these New Glarus wheat brews a lot more than I expected.
