Roasted coffee aroma, nice creamy head, a litte thin, still good flavor.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
The description is misleading: the aroma is NOT dominated by coffee. This is a Good Thing, as Coffee Stout is a well-balanced, smooth stout.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Black in color, large tan head. Head dissipated rather quickly. Coffee aroma, but not overly so. Flavor is initially creamy, followed by a coffee bite and finished with slight roasted malt. Medium carbonation. A decent coffee stout, albeit rather ’light.’

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Near black; coffeeish yes, but not overly roasty. Hops and malts are understated, which detracts from the overall presentation of the beer. Still likeable, mind you, but timid.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
OK, I’ll try to be objective even though I didn’t personally care for it. It really smells of coffee. And tastes of coffee. And the aftertaste is of coffee. Get the idea. I don’t like coffee at all. Anyway, I suppose others would like it.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Very dry and with roasted barley flavors. Nothing to complex in this one just an average stout.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: NOV 12, 2003 This is edging in on world class in my mind. Deep, sharp roastiness and coffee flavor, with the perfect light-to-medium body to handle it. he body is indeed reminiscent of a dry stout (which I am not a fan of) but the flavors sit wonderfully on top of the perfectly carbonated body. A gem, and a true session stout. Outstanding. Thanks Kev.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Dark mahogany with oats swimming around. Thin foamy tan head. Very light carbonation. There’s that spent grain aroma again. Some light roasted notes and husky grain aromas. Medium light body. Light roasted malts, very weak. Too airy as well. Light oat sweetness and minimal coffee aspects (from the malts you know). Finishes dry with a slightly more malted flavor. This is a decent Porter, at best, but a lame Stout and an even worse Coffee Stout. A pathetic marketing ploy if you ask me.

Alive with heady roasted flavours, this was a chief treat on a New Glarus pilgrimage I took with mwendt back in the day.

This is one of my favorite stouts. A pleasure to drink.
