orville (140), Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, USA Jan 6, 2007 (bottle) Pours a black with a dirty white head. Aroma is of faint chocolate (hot chocolate). At first sip its very shallow but then the complexity picks up and wow what wonderfully balanced and robust beer. Flavors of mocha and cofees linger in the aftertaste.
alexsdad06 (620), Ohio, USA Aug 1, 2008 12 oz. bottle shared by shigadeyo. Pours a dark brown color with medium sized creamy ecru head that leaves some nice lace. The aroma has nice roasted malt, dark chocolate, soft coffee, and vanilla cream. The flavor again has a nice amount of roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee with cream, all leading to a finish that is dry with a good amount of bitterness. Body is medium to med/full and smooth drinking. New Glarus rarely disappoints. Retorp (2158), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 18, 2008 Courtesy of Ibrew2or3. Thanks, Dave.
The aroma has a lot of milk chocolate, caramel, sweet cream and toasted malt notes. The coffee seems to be rather muted to my nose. The body is a dull black and holds a diminishing mocha head that leaves ample lacing.
The fore has sweet cream, chocolate and coffee along with some vaguely vegetable notes. Fairly roasted malt component. Has a smooth feel to it and finishes sweet. Again the coffee side of things doesn’t seem especially large though the flavor is fairly prominent on the finish. It also feels a lot like cold coffee as you swallow.
It is enjoyable on the whole, but doesn’t wow me like most NG beers do.
badbeer (409), Iowa, USA Jul 5, 2008 Pours out black with a tan head, retention is pretty good, some lacing. Smell is of roasted coffee and chocolate, no hops in the nose. Taste starts of a bit bitter from roastiness and then becomes more chocolate-y with a roasted finish. Higher on carbonation, but not harsh, lighter side of medium bodied, dry finish. Overall I really liked this and will be drinking plenty while it’s still around. Tmoney99 (3544), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Jun 4, 2008 Bottle shared by shegadeyo. Poured dark brown color with medium brown creamy head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Medium roasted coffee and chocolate aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture. Medium to heavy roasted flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met. phishpond417 (1418), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA May 29, 2008 Pours a deep opaque black colour. Head is full, fluffy and tan. Chocolatey, creamy caramel and all sorts of sweet blended treats inside this beer. a little thicker than i anticipated, but delightful for the mouth.
