hezron (592), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Aug 17, 2007 Pours into my wheat glass with a huge rocky head that dissipates over time as huge carbonation bubbles rise up the side of the glass. Super cloudy and golden in color. Aroma of toasted wheat, caramel candy and caramelized banana. Flavors of earthy bubblegum and banana with a nice bit of lemony-wheat before a touch of clove, but really not much spice at all. Towards the end it starts tasting a little like apples. Palate is nice and refreshing, with prickly carbonation and a slightly drying finish. Overall, it may be a little sweet and I find the apple-clove combination in the finish a little strange.
00cobraR (953), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA Sep 3, 2008 holy shit. this thing has to be the best hefe i have ever drank. It is also high octane. Pours out a cloudy yellow color with a large head. aroma is full of wheat, cloves, and other spices. flavor is as well adn very refreshing. This brew certainly took me off guard as i didnt expect it to be so good. wheatfreak (34), Marinette, Wisconsin, USA Sep 1, 2008 Updated: Sep 6, 2008Pours a cloudy, orange cider-like appearance. The nose bursts of a basket of banana, cinnamon, cloves and an overall fruity aroma. Has a powerful zing of fruits and spicies, and finishes with a slight warmth of alcohol- especially as it warms. DMW is a great rendition of the bavarian hefe, as it meets or surpasses the quality of any German hefe available. An impressive brew from New Glarus. moelikebeer (126), New Brighton, Minnesota, USA Aug 30, 2008 Bottle. Hazy, golden orange pour with a thick head that faded quickly. Aroma of fruity esthers, banana and clove. Flavor of wheat, fruit and spice. Outstanding domestic hefeweizen! noncaloric (45), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Aug 28, 2008 Bottle, pilsner glass. Pours a hazy amber-gold with a generous fluffy white head. The beer is just transparent enough to tell that it’s sparkling, and the ongoing effervescence maintains the head at about one finger’s thickness for some time, and a half-finger’s thickness for the duration of the glass. Aroma is principally yeasty, accompanied by citrus and banana elements. First impressions on the tongue are slightly sweet, fruit-juicy in both mouthfeel and flavor, grapefruit and bananas are particularly present. Generous carbonation buzzes the tongue, while a just a hint of cloves prickles it. After swallowing, yeasty vapors continue to waft through the mouth, and the refreshing citrus sensation, now more like kumquat, continues to reside on the cheeks. LilBeerDoctor (504), East Setauket, New York, USA Aug 28, 2008 Bottle courtesy of iowaherkeye. Pours a hazy orange with a thick white head. Aroma of clove and citrus. Lots of fruits (citrus, lots of orange, melon) in the mouth, some vegetable notes (same ones I got in the Imperial Weizen). Strong for a hefe but supremely drinkable.
